We forget some times Root is still young but these shots serve as reminders. What a terrible shot man.

I think this is a very good point and Root's own excellence makes us forget that at times.. He has thrown away his wickets a few times in his career but guy is only 23. It's a measure of how good he is that he is considered a 'senior' batsman in the side.

Root is 25 ftr, not 23. But he's young, yes.

I don;t think that's a valid excluse though. A guy as obviously good as him can;t be throwing centuries away like this. And he's only really young by age, he's been a test regular for long enough not to pay shots like those.

I think Root will always have those sort of issues as opposed to Smith. He has a natural instinct to go after his shots and has to curb that instinct, a bit like Lara was whereas Smith is a run accumulator along the lines of Cook or YK.
