Yeah it's not until November and he's apparently playing T20 this week as a specialist batsman so he should definitely be back by then. There are a bunch of one dayers and then a tour of Bangladesh before that which he should make too though, so maybe he'll have re-injured himself by India.

No doubt Pakistan are the best team in the world at the moment. The way they came back from huge setbacks for parts of the third Test and all of this Test is testament to reserves of character that many didn't seem to realise they have. Unfortunately this can only last so long as Younis and Misbah are around, which probably isn't too long. Really look forward to seeing them in Australia regardless.

I don't think we are, we have to compete in NZ and Aus to be in shot of that title. This is not downplaying how good England is, it's just that there are a few sides that are equally at the top including England and have to beat them in their backyard to claim the sole title of being the best.

Well played Pakistan. Brilliant Test series, played in excellent spirit. So much to love about this Pakistan team and the way they play the game. These are great times for Test cricket.

I think right now, the 15th of August 2016, I don't have a problem saying Pakistan is the best in the world.

It's not by much, and it's not undisputed, but I think it's true.

They've tied with England at home, dismantled Australia, tied with South Africa (at the beginning of their decline) and have enough truly test standard players that it's not a fluke.

Nah, too hard to say categorically for me atm, I don't think there's any clear no. 1. side, which is wonderful for Test cricket. Strong tours of Australia and NZ by Pakistan would probably make it categorical for me though, depending of course what other sides do along the way. Should be two great series.

What are the ranking permutations now? I think England can no longer go to No. 1, is it? Pakistan have to hope that India don't beat WI in the last Test, IIRC. What happens if Australia wins their current match?

Unless the top teams are EXACTLY equal (a mathematical improbability), there's always a number 1.

That team right now is Pakistan, for me.
