Clutch Dauth seals victory
CW XI even series at the Dome
CW XI vs Pakistan 2nd Test

A composed, yet aggressive, half-century by Rob Dauth was crucial, as the Cricket Web XI fought hard for a series leveling win against Pakistan at the PDV Dome. The Webheads chased a tricky target of 234 for victory, getting home from 165-5 by 5 wickets.

Dauth batted beautifully in scoring 59 not out, and scored the winnings run fittingly. He was joined by Liam Camps at the end, who scored 21 unbeaten. Earlier it was the batting of Mørk and Cloete that stole the show, however. The usually reserved wicketkeeper batsman was at his fluent best and made up for a tough showing with the gloves in Pakistan's innings, scoring 64 off 115 balls.

Cloete chipped in with 41, and the two innings set up victory, before Shahid Afridi accounted for both to keep Pakistan in the hunt. The wicket of David Kearsley early on the fourth morning gave hope, but to no avail.

It was an incredible show of teamwork throughout by the CW XI throughout that match en route to victory. Everyone seemed to contribute somehow toward the cause. David Kennett bowled with great skill for figures of 17.5-5-31-5 in Pakistan's first innings, as they were bowled out for 249, having been inserted by Goff under overcast skies.

In reply, the CW XI were found struggling at 133-4, but a gritty half-century from David Kearsley ensured that a first innings lead was still on the cards, albeit only 2 runs. The innings was a true display of guts and hard work, as Kearsley took 173 balls to compile 54 runs in the difficult circumstances.

Next, it was the turn of Greg Thomas. Playing just his 6th Test match, Thomas bowled with pace and aggression, mixing a very effective slower ball into his game plan too. He finished with 7-74, and only Mohammad Yousuf's 87 stood out for Pakistan in a score of 235.

The game was then well poised with either team still in it. Wickets of Mamesh and Goff left the CW XI at 50-2, but the desire to win was ultimately greater for the home team.

Pakistan 1st innings 249 all out
(Younis Khan 57, Shahid Afridi 51; DM Kennett 5-31)
Cricket Web XI 1st innings 251 all out
(DA Kearsley 54, LA Camps 42; Shahid Afridi 3-24, Mohammad Asif 3-63)
Pakistan 2nd innings 235 all out
(Mohammad Yousuf 87, Mohammad Hafeez 35; GM Thomas 7-74)
Cricket Web XI 2nd innings 234-5
(H Mørk 64, RJ Dauth 59*; Shahid Afridi 2-31)

Cricket Web XI won by 5 wickets.

Great stuff. :) Good to see Thomas stepping up to international level, although it was definitely a team effort - everyone played their part, exactly what you'd want to see. :)

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Honestly wasn't expecting MOTM after such a poor bowling effort in the first innings. Definately an all-round team effort to win with both bowlers and batsmen performing well for the win, a definite improvement on the last match.

Nah mate you deserved it, taking 7 wickets in an innings at test level is a huge achivement. Congrats btw :)

Great win guys, as Towns said a team effort. DK and Thomas having a field day with the ball, Hakon, Cloete, Kears, Camps, etc etc chipping in the with the bat.

Very happy with my own effort too, wasn't sure I'd be able to have any impact at test level. Probably my best performance in a first-class game for quite a while too  Anyway, 3 tests to go, still anyone's series.

Everyone brought something there! Greg, WAG, Rob, Kears, Camps. Everyone gunned it, and it`s surely the best thing about this team. We don`t have a few superstars we rely on, everyone puts in.
