Abid Ali's ton in this game has gone from reasonably being viewed as minnow bashing, to possibly the differences between Pakistand losing or saving the game and now that Bangladesh are messing things up, it could even end up as matchwinning. But when someone looks at his stats in 30 years time, unless they actally remember the match or check the scorecards they'll gloss over it because it was against Bangladesh

Ponting and Inzi scored very important tons against BD when they were way worse.

Hope Nauman Uncle finds his radar tomorrow. Unlucky in the first innings but he's a genuine threat on a turner.

Any reason why both Naeem & Sarkar are not being picked in test side? They both look best suited to face pace bowling among Shanto Shadman etc.

Soumya isn't getting picked because he already proved himself to be woefully short of the required standard on his 2nd, 3rd and eventually 17th last chance.

Naim I think is regarded as a white ball specialist. I wouldn't trust him against the red ball with his minimal footwork myself but he's got some ability and could be expected to transition to red ball at some stage.

I didn't see either of Shanto's innings so I don't know how poor he looked against the quick bowling but he's one of our best talents for a number of years and his performances in his seven test previous since 2020 more than justify his selection. I'd keep playing him even if he's struggling against pace tbh. He's one of the guys who could potentially play for us for a decade and he won't improve much making easy tons in our first class comp.

Shadman is someone they favour for his temperament and patience. I've seen him play a couple of good digs on placid surfaces when he left the ball well outside off stump and accumulated his runs responsibly. He's not someone I've got high hopes for but he's not the worst batsman going around. I wouldn't be opposed to Naim being tried in his place but he needs to tighten his technique a bit before I'd trust him against the new ball in tests.

Soumya, at this stage, has become a meme amongst Bangladesh fans and is basically a mascot for serial failure. He's actually served a somewhat useful role recently as a medium pace bowler on helpful foreign decks decks who comes in to bat at number 7, which I wouldn't mind seeing him do again - although I think Saifuddin would do the job far better. But if he gets handed his 18th last chance as a top order batsman a part of me will die.

I'm hoping they drop someone and pick Mahmudul Hasan Joy for the next one. I haven't seen much of him but he was an elite U/19s talent and surely couldn't do worse than Saif Hassan or Yasir Ali (who might still surprise me in the second dig, obviously).

And Afif Hossain is our best talent since Tamim and Mushfiq came through 15 years ago and has class stamped all over him. Not sure how he's done in our FC comp but I'm hoping it won't be long before he's in the side.

I don't know but Soumya looks like has much higher ceiling.. Naeem looked class in WT20. Shadman & Shanto while may do well vs minnows & Zimbabwe but don't look like they have what it takes to take on quality attacks.
Naeem has played few good knocks in T20s vs bigger teams.. I am kinda surprised why isn't he in the mix yet.
Bangladesh pitches don't offer too much of movement for pacers so perhaps not technique but temperament is tested here. Naeem & Soumya both look comfortable facing pace compared to Shadman & Shanto. Litton was also labelled as white ball specialist but clearly he is one of the best options Bangladesh has in facing quality Pakistan pace attack along with experienced Mushi.
Building a test side isn't easy but you need to back right players & take bold calls.
Pakistani pacers will be much wary of someone like Sarkar or Naeem than others at the top.

EDITED after realising my error

You're massively, massively overestimating Soumya's ceiling. We've been watching him play for seven years now and he hasn't improved one iota, and failed so consistently, with such frequency and predictability for the last 4-5 years, it's now verging on tragicomedy. He's also absolutely awful against the moving ball and seems to be all at sea outside off stump. He's only got one score of note in any of the three formats in that time, which was a 149 against New Zealand. Which is objectively impressive against their bowling attack but from memory it was on one of the flattest decks we've ever played on in SENA countries and it produced these scores:

Otherwise, if you look at his record, it's basically a sea of failure.

I do however agree on backing players and taking bold calls. Afif is one I'd like to see them pick early and back for 10-20 matches until he's ready. And in fact, I'd apply the same principle to Shanto and possibly Mahmdul Hasan Joy. I'd also be happy for them to try convert Naim into a red ball player as he clearly has some ability, but at this stage he's played a total of 6 first class matches and managed an average of 16 on placid Bangladeshi decks against bowlers who are not good enough to play for Bangladesh. There's absolutely no way to justify picking him until he's played a lot more red ball cricket and got significantly better at it.

Actually @Apex Predator I just realised I've mixed up Shanto's record with some of the other ones I was looking at. He actually failed twice against West Indies. At this stage, he's only got runs against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Yes, I see your point :P
