*Official* Pakistan in Australia 2024 (white ball tour)

JFM has been spoken of as some generational talent whereas Short etc were not

A lot of people have been pencilling Short in as a staple of this white ball side for 5+ years. Not saying write him off but he has to do something, anything to justify that chatter. Some people were even talking about him in the Test side not that long ago!

Tbf the test middle order stocks where pretty dire at the time (pre ashes marsh and 2022 inglis) and short had 6 months of shield cricket where he looked unstoppable along with the whiteball stuff.

I’ve seen nothing to suggest that Short is a better player than Daniel Hughes or Ben McDermott and he’s probably not as good as the latter

The book is out on Short

Doesn’t move his feet and slaps at the ball outside off & tries to get underneath anything short

Stay off his legs, make sure the short ball is at least chest high and bowl 4th stump

Some of the more over-reactive negativity I've seen from Aussie fans in a while here lol

JFM has to go but let's not throw out the rest of the whole batting group along with him just yet, after 2 bad games. Along with Marsh and Head this is still going to be our batting group and talk of the likes of McDermott (lmao) being better is hilarious.

Only guy I can think of that has a genuine case to be there is maybe Carey who gunned it in ODIs recently. Just because he's a keeper doesn't mean he and Inglis can't play together

Calling out Hardie is fair enough actually. Never really earned a spot on this format in the first place. More of a red ball player from what I've seen. I bet there would be plenty of better performing domestic 50 over allrounders

Good time for me to repeat a pet whinge. I think they're ruining the possibility of him being a good test cricketer by jamming him in the limited overs sides. He's played only a handful of FC matches for two years now and his form's really fallen away. Silly thing to do.

Batting line up in Perth will be interesting. Philippe should open but there's no-one to bat 3 (don't want to push Inglis up). I'm guessing they'll give Short and McGurk one last chance (or maybe McGurk at 3 which worked in one T20)

1. Short
2. McGurk
3. Philippe
4. Inglis (+) (c)
5. Stoinis
6. Hardie / Connolly
7. Maxwell
8. Abbott
9. Bartlett
10. Zampa
11. Morris / Johnson

Actually would be pretty happy to have a full strength top 3 of Head, Marsh and Philippe

If they're going to turn anyone into a short form cricketer it'd be Jhye Richardson. I say that with a sigh as he'd be a great test cricketer and overall is better with the red ball. While there's still hope he might do a Harris, it might be time to get some LOI internationals out of him before his career vanishes.

But the main problem is the batting and I just react badly to the smoke that's been blown up JFM's ass and it's killing him when the public can see the results don't match the hype. All up though we have a good group with Travis, Smith, Marnus, Marsh, Maxie (though his form is a worry and I wonder if its the start of the decline or just a bad trot) and Inglis. Add Carey too.

There are more candidates coming though, the most important being Matt Short. Totally agree with the impatience expressed in this thread about his failure to take his chance, but he's worth sticking with as he is the closest we have to replacing Warner. Other than him I'd like to see some of Oliver Davies, Webster, Edwards, Phillippe, Sutherland and Tanveer given opportunities. I have to agree with the comments about Hardie and maybe have one of Webster, Sutherland or Edwards given a go.

Re: JFM, as I said during the MCG match it almost seems like he's purely in there for marketing reasons.

It's a win/win situation for CA; if he succeeds he generates public/media interest as a new batting star on the rise. If he fails, it generates a lit of public/media debate as why he's risen so quickly and who else there is.

I don't understand how Short, McGurk and Hardie are batting top 3 while Philippe is carrying the drinks?

Also no Bartlett?

I'm not sure how Philippe has gone in domestic ODI cricket but seems his decline in the big bash over the last couple years has been substantial.

Philippe just moved to NSW where he's having a very good season. He's the leading run scorer in the one day cup amd just hit a very good hundred opening

Pakistan would have to be favourites to win this match and the series with Australia rolling out their B team today and after just thrashing their A team.

More like C team today and B team last match as was missing Head, Marsh and Green in the top 4

Old mate is below average as a domestic player. Just a hideous batsman if he doesn't get balls in the absolute slot.

I don't think McTwerp is cut out to be an opener. He's nowhere close to being an international player at all but he may be better off as a slogger down the order at some point in the future.
