But Afridi is more attacking than Ajmal and Leg-Spinners are normally more suited to Test cricket than Off-Spinners. Plus if Afridi goes as a bowler, then there will be less pressure on him in regards to his batting, which is miles better than Ajmal's. And Ajmal is also a chucker.

Just saw this on another forum.... Russell you legend!!!

Only three wickets are down, Sri Lanka need just about 60 runs to win with a powerplay coming up. An injured Afridi is bowling with no follow through at around 80ks. The camera casts to Pakistani fans who were earlier dancing around and shows them now sitting quietly and hoping for a swift turn around.

Russell Arnold, on commentary with Waqar, beams up and talks about how all the dancing has faded and how the crowd is silenced. He goes on to say that 'even their prayers won't be able to save them'.

can't see why his brand of bowling cannot be successful in tests he gets alot of wickets when batsman is playing defensive shots. All he needs to show is some patience and i have no doubt he can succeed in the longer version.

Talha would benefit a lot by playing international cricket.
Yep...That guy is gun...will go for runs but a season or two with senior team will turn him into a lethal bowler.

Too bad for him that Gul will always get picked ahead of him by bowling two spells a year and releasing pressure on opponent for rest of year....Oh the seniority bukhaaar of Pak selectors and team management.

Ajmal is ahead if afridi in tests, and rightly so, he will leak runs.

Say it with a whisper, but gul has been decent enough this series.

I find it hard to believe that Afridi couldn't find a role in the Test side when there is a role for Rehman, i.e. a back up spinner with some allround ability.

That's in addition to the fact that he's Afridi, which in itself is justification enough for me to want to see him in the side. Everyone bowls change-of-pace allsorts and slogs with the bat in limited overs cricket, it's in Tests that to me he really seems special.

However, practically speaking I find it hard to believe that Afridi would take the role of a bib-wearing squad bowler in the side. Or that weakening the middle order further by including him as a fifth bowler is sensible. And I really doubt that chucking in someone like him onto a Test side that's just beginning to find some consistent success is a good idea.

I don't think Afridi playing Tests as a bowler would be a terrible idea but there's no way he's better than Ajmal. Ajmal's finally started to deliver in Tests against non-minnows; now is definitely not the time to drop him. I actually think he has the potential to be the best spinner in the world, even ahead of Swann, so he deserves a proper run at least.

Decent? 3 wickets in 4 games so far and all came in 3rd game?

I would rather see Talha go for these figures at least he is learn something from it and improve as bowler. Not Gul, who knows he is automatic selection, even after years of consistent disappointments and lack of consistency

Yeah, indeed. I'd have him in the squad ahead of Rehman but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't come out of retirement for that; he'd have to have a permanent place in the side and he really shouldn't at the moment.

I have to disagree regarding Gul. I think Gul has bowled really well this series (flat wickets). He has done well with the new ball. Only problems were the he was bowling under 130 (probably due to the heat) and that he sometimes doesn't use his brain (forgets that he has a bloody good Yorker).

You answered your own question in the same post!!

On his average; that doesn't tell the full picture, he has really been bowling beautifully the past 4/5 years and it's almost became a given that he will take wickets when needed, top odi bowler.

Afridi in the test side would not be a bad idea at all. He can bowl but I would also put a lot of weight to his batting. Especially in situations which Misbah decided to draw the game with Afridi you can always send him up the order and have a go at the chase and see if it works....

Afridi's bloated ego will never allow him to settle for a squad player he has to be guaranteed a place in starting XI to even get him thinking about a test return.

I said decent enough:)

When Amur and Afisf were around I was actually calling for his head.
But time has taught ne that he has a certain value others don't, which is a great attitude and hard work.

So until we have 3 quicks who are obviously better than gul I think he should keep his spot, it's not ALL about outrageous talent ala amir.
