Proud that I was the only one supporting Finns inclusion over Anderson in tests while the other ridiculed me.

Also, I supported Bopara over Bell/Morgan :O

Finn and Bresnan to fight it out for the future test spot I reckon, Bresnan possibly for Sri Lanka in a 5 man attack but back at home with the 4 man attack maybe Finn should get the nod. I think Finn is the more likely one to get 200+ wickets anyway.

Should win this from here, but i have thought that a few times on this tour.
But this time you guys are relying on your bowling to get the job done.

Finn taking wickets in an ODI doesn't make your suggestion any less ridiculous, or any more relevant to why England lost.

Dude, if I just joined the forum I'd swear you were a England supporter.

This idea that Cook is a problem at the top of the order is rubbish. When he scores runs, he does it very quickly.
Yep. The only real issue with Cook or Trott is they don't have much of a clue if you're needing to hit out in the last 5-10 overs and they inevitably hole out and you've got someone new coming in at an awkward stage. Of late that means you've usually got two new people at the crease fannying about in the midst of a collapse.

And as well as vindicating that decision, this match has comprehensively proven Bopara to be a better Test batsman than Younis.

A fair point, but the least of our problems.

It has in fact shown Younis to be an infinitely worse batsman than the likes of Swann and Farhat. It's proven that Pakistan should've played Farhat ahead of Younis in the Test series and I'm proud to have been the one to suggest that at the time.

Fair shout, might be worth getting him to play in that slot a few times for Notts, failing that we draft Hales in and give him a few games and see how it goes.

As for the Cook Trott thing the man averages near enough 50 and given the next WC is in Aus I actually think his style will be pretty conducive to the pitches there in the way it really wasn't in the SC.

As for Pietersen well his ODI form has been terminal for a while and TBH I felt he should have retired from ODIs after the WC.

And Finn, Anderson, Broad, Bresnan Headingley vs South Africa just saying.
Thanks. Not knocking Cook or Trott at all; I rate them both highly and regard them as England's two most effective batsmen in Tests and ODIs. Was just saying that sometimes if you watch them together too many dot balls are bowled to them. That's a key statistic and one that's too often overlooked.

If you compare England to the better one day sides the difference is not so much in the power hitters as in the number of dot balls bowled to the top order players. For Trott (more than for Cook who as I said I've been really impressed with of late) I wish would become just slightly more adept at nudging and nurdling for singles or twos pretty unthreatening balls which he too often blocks without attempting to score off them.

Regardless of that minor quibble I would absolutely have both of them in the team every time - their getting runs is a prerequisite to England having any success in the format - but to extract the maximum we need to ensure that we get more attacking players to complement them, so:

Cook
Broad
Trott
Buttler

would for me be better than the current top order.

You could argue that Cook would be the ideal partner for someone like Buttler because of his ability to rotate the strike.

Cook shouldnt give up attacking...if they get set and get the total upto 150, Pak have both Malik and Afridi who can slog a few
