Johns is a tosser. He is just milking this for as long as he can. Because he's on the sidelines and not getting any attention, he has to resort to this. Bravo Mr. Johns... :@
Let me assure you he is not doing this to create attention. he is about to make a career deciding desicion and is really feeling the pressure.

if he hasn't made up his mind by now maybe he should just stick with league - or maybe he should flip a coin...

by the sounds of what hes saying on the footy show, hes gonna go, its quite obvious he wants to go, but has the feeling he'd be letting people down if he left.

Yep, looked very much like that.

What's surprised me most about this whole saga is that Gould has kept his mouth shut.

i doubt anyone would want to sign with souths even if they knew who the coach was!
You're being very harsh on my team, broncoman.

Don't get my previous "St Arthur" post wrong - that was a joke. St Arthur is a caretaker coach, and they will sign an experienced coach for next year (although I was talking yesterday to Joel Penny, who played with 4 NRL clubs and under a fair few coaches including Chris Anderson and Peter Sharpe, and he reckons Kitinas was the best of the lot).

But Shane Richardson is not a joke. Souths are starting at the top with the rebuilding of the club, and they now have the bloke who is considered the best CEO's in the game. I reckon they will turn it around over the next two years.

That said, this weekend will be a ritual slaughter at the SCG. I'm almost afraid to look.

souths are improving, but they are still so far behind the rest i cant see them making the finals in the next 5 years. Joe Williams is ok, not a player to buil a team around though im afraid. i know if i was a professional league player and i was offered 300k a year to play for newcastle id take it over 500k souths offered me, simply cause id want to win the comp.

Souths are currently 3 points out of the 8 (admittedly with the help of byes). If 8 out of 15 make the finals, you don't need to be that good to get there. I reckon they can make it in 2006.

I would be very surprised if Joe Williams was next year's halfback. Like Kitinas, he's a caretaker.

I appreciate your point about prefering to play for less at a more successful club, but some players prefer the challenge of turning things around. And we only have to find a few players like this.

Look at what Penrith were able to do in the space of a couple of years.

the panthers were always destined for happy times, those guys like waterhouse and clinton won all the grades through the juniors, they just won the comp a couple of seasons before they were supposed to. to me souths dont seem to have those types of players coming through...

difference between Penrith and Souths, is the Juniors...

People claim that souths have good juniors but thats a load of crud...
Add to this what juniors they do have the Rorters take them...
Souths will not make the semis for at least 3-5 years...

That might be true, but their lower grades aren't doing as badly as the first grade team, and there will be improvement if their resources are properly managed, and that should start happening now. The whole club has been an organisational sh*tfight since they were reinstated, and that is being sorted out now.

I wouldn't be surprised if the first thing Shane Richardson attempts is a merger with Souths Juniors.

Andrew Johns to stay in Rugby League

Andrew Johns decided this morning to accept a two-year offer from the Newcastle Knights and remain in rugby league, his manager John Fordham said in a statement.

The decision ends weeks of speculation as to where Johns would finish his career after with Newcastle halfback weighed up a career switch to rugby union.

The 30-year-old turned down a reported $1 million per season offer from the NSW Waratahs to stay in Newcastle where he started his league career as a 14-year-old with the Knights.

Last night Johns said the decision was causing him a lot of stress.

"I am torn between the loyalty of playing rugby league in Newcastle and the new challenge of playing rugby union," Johns said on Channel Nine's Footy Show.

He said a final decision would be based on his personal happiness and the welfare of his family which includes his young son Samuel.

"I think (the decision will be based on) just happiness for myself. I think everyone realises sometimes in Newcastle it can be like living in a fish bowl but I love living up there," he said last night.

While he has led Newcastle to two league premierships, won two World Cups and been named NSW and Test skipper, Johns said rugby league still had plenty to offer.

"In rugby league there is still a whole lot more I can do. I'd still like to captain more premierships," he said.

"I think the biggest challenge for me is to get back from a knee reconstruction, to maybe get to a better level that I was before.

"It (the money from the Knights and the Waratahs) is pretty much the same."

ahwell, at least we won't see his mug on the tele for another 8 months (here's hoping anyway)

I reckon there will be less player movements after the June 30 anti-tampering deadline.
