I must say, leading into Wednesday night, you really have to question the value of Cooper Cronk on the bench. No doubt he's within the top half dozen Qld players and likely in the top ten NRL players. But he simply doesn't fit in the Qld team given we have Lockyer and Thurston in the halves. For mine, he provides little value off the bench compared to another running forward. It smacks of the Kangaroo team 1990-1994 when Langer and Stuart were in the same 17 (sometimes off the bench, other times as hooker). In summary, a crucial bench spot is being handed out as a consolation prize. Magnificent player, but an ill-fit.

Yeah it's an interesting one. I'm inclined to agree for the most part. Queensland are lucky in that their hooker can comfortably play for 80 minutes, so they don't necessarily need a guy that can give Smith a rest. Then again JT plays 80 minutes too so a replacement half doesn't make sense either.

I guess the question is who do you pick there? I'm not seeing any forward not picked for QLD that would add the kind of impact you need off the bench, and then what happens if someone goes down in the backline? Ideally you'd like a guy that can play anywhere in the backline. NSW are lucky to have yougottabeKiddingly in that regard. He's not origin quality, but a player in the mold of Barba might be an idea.

The Pearce thing is just some good ol fashioned stirring of the pot in the week before Origin. Nice one Sticky ;)

Reading The Courier Mail is always fun during origin time. Peter Badel...quality writing flowing from every pore at the moment. Apparently he's from NSW, but he has plugged into the QLD paranoia machine here in Brissy.

Although, I'm sure it's the same for QLDers reading The Daily Telegraph.

It's way OTT isn't it?

They treat the readers like fools, as though we're all red-necked, salivating, meat-head, boofhead, Maroon to the bone, diehards' who can't process anything other than biased rubbish.

Yes, I support Qld, but that's not why I read the newspaper. I like to read about the latest team news and have some analysis of the game.

Fair cop.

For me though, I like objective commentary and analysis...that's why I read The Australian.

Rumours are strong that Stuart will take over from Kevin Moore at the Dogs.

The momentum for this will be unstoppable if the Blues get up tomorrow, and the Dogs get pumped at Adelaide by the Storm this weekend.

Yeah big Kev got the "complete support of the board" treatment in an email to members today apparently. Dead man walking.

Sticky and the mange deserve each other imo. Match made in the deepest pits of hell.

It does become a whinge-a-thon...actually I've been meaning to buy the Daily Tele and Courier Mail since Monday to check out what both side have been writing, but forgot.

If QLD win tomorrow order will be restored...although I'll have to read about QLD pride and spirit winning against all odds and the NSW cheating bastards for a few days.

If NSW win however, I'll be buying the Courier Mail daily for at least the next week.

That's the pansy fairytale script they're writing in the North. South of the border we're looking at more of a Return of the Jedi narrative where the evil Empire gets felled by the freedom loving rebels at the point at which it looks the strongest.

Psh... Great man. Let's save the platitudes for October. Right now he's a filthy cane toad. Hope he has his worst game since under 6s.

Yeah, hard to tell.

Origins are like Djokovic v Federer v Nadal games - invariably great struggles, decided by a crucial 10 minutes or so.

Weather is set fair tonight.

The boys will have the after-burners on.

The stress that these guys must go through in the lead up to kick off would be amazing.

A different kind of stress than your day-to-day worker, but nonetheless still exacting.

The fairytale script is Lockyer getting knocked out in the first 5 minutes, 4 more QLDers getting carried off before half-time and them finishing with 10 men on the pitch and looking at a 50 point deficit...probably won't happen though.
