I thought the refs were shocking last night in the Souths - Titans game. I thought the Titans were rather lucky, but you know, 2 points is 2 points.

Looking all but certain that our buddy Jarrod Sammut will be heading to Catalans Dragons to play out the year in the Super League after being told he wasn't realistically in the Panthers frame for 2010.

Not too happy about it tbh. He had some shocking games at fullback at the back end of 09, but I'm still not convinced that's his position, and he damn near won us some games single handedly last year coming off the bench as a utility. Reckon he could have played a role this year despite our increased depth in the halves and at hooker.
I have been thinking about that this today, and I was thinking why couldn't that couldn't have been sorted at the end of last season? I maybe in the minority and I will probably be laughed at for saying this, but I think if a player starts a season at a club, then he should be have to remain at that club for the rest of the season, or if he decides to leave, then he shouldn't be allowed to play for another club. Now before anybody starts, I thought it was ridiculous that Brett Finch could start last season for Parramatta, leave and end up in Melbourne. He should of been made to stick the year out at the Eels, either playing first grade or in the reggies, but he couldn't play for Melbourne.

It should be the same for all mid season transfers IMO. The other thing is, I hope the Bulldogs don't release Hannant from his contract early, because he wants to go back to Queensland, because he has released that Sydney is not the best place to raise his family. Well hang on, you used to live in Sydney when you played for the Roosters, so you would know what the lifestyle in Sydney is like, and something you would of taken into consideration when you went after the big dollars that Canterbury were offering. If it were me, I would tell him he can stay out for his final year (2011) and leave, or he can sit out the final year of his contract but he can't play for anybody else. Or he can move his family back to Queensland and let him visit, once a week or once a fortnight (eg if they play on Friday night in Sydney, then he can fly out Saturday and come back early Monday morning) as a compromise. Fair enough if that was the case if he was playing in England, but he was getting himself into when he went to play for the Bulldogs.

The whole thing is a bloody circus.

Don't get this line of thinking tbh. For years in competitions like the NBA players have been traded mid-week and can play for one team and then play against that team during the same week. I think it's fine for a player to switch clubs during the season. We want the best competition and we can't have the best players sitting out, It really wouldn't be a good look for the NRL if the best players are sitting out for a whole season. As long as clubs aren't disadvantaged I don't mind players changing clubs. For a salary cap to be truly successful there needs to be a draft. So the lower ranked teams get the best crop of new talent coming through.

Getting every NRL match live here so it's the first time I've bothered to watch thugby league on a regular basis in years

To its' credit, it has been ****ting all over most of the Super 14 and 6 Nations matches as a spectacle

Perhaps clubs should get their acts together at the end of the season. I agree on the draft though.

DAWTA. Lower ranked teams have plenty of opportunities to improve their squads at the expense of teams who have developed better players. Look at the Dogs last year. I'll be diplomatic and refer to the Roosters only as fantastic scouts of talent. As much as the constant movement of players can be frustrating, it's one of the main things keeping the league so even and making the salary cap work.

Yeah, but I reckon if they had a draft, drafted players could be on a fixed salary, which could then allow for perhaps 1 or 3 marquee players to be salary exempt. There's a lot more that needs to be discussed about the recruitment of players in the NRL.

Round two and the Parra juggernaut stirs, 12 rounds earlier than last year thank Christ.

Still not convinced about them though. Nevertheless, if there's a better try this year than that 110 metre effort yesterday, I look forward to seeing it. The fact Tahu ran 50 metres and didn't pull up lame is a massive bonus too.

Oh, and Manly are kidding themselves. No point dominating 60 minutes each week if you completely die in the arse at the back end of every game.

John Cartwright wants sin bins banned.
Then he's a ****wit.

Should be a 5 minute sin bin available - 10 minutes is an eternity in the modern era.

Love watching the Raiders have a go, but they've fallen asleep since hlaf time, letting the team with more unusually-named outside backs than any other club in league history back into the game.
