Gutted at losing Folau TBH, but what can you do? In the end Melbourne was always going to have trouble matching what Brisbane could offer and when you have family thrown and a man who his family is very important to him, so it is understandable.

Anyway knowing Melbourne, they will find young gun (C Smith, Slater, Inglis etc.) out there who will go out and start gunning it anyway and will not miss Folau that much :p

WRT Folau, $400k does seem a lot, but you'd imagine he could have got half as much again if he'd gone to union or the Super League, so it's probably the going rate for a banner name like him.

Anyway, what's the go with Wallace? It's always dangerous making pronouncements on what you've read rather than seen, but he was being talked as an Origin chance after the first couple of rounds. Didn't even get a regular go for Penrith, did he?
IIRC Wallace was starting for Penrith, until he announced that he'd signed with Brisbane for the next season.

EDIT: If Cam Smith goes to Brisbane next season (as it was being reported early on in the year) they'd want to be losing a few off contract players, can't see how on earth they could fit under the salary cap otherwise.

He can go to Melbourne in return.

Oh look those pigs have booked a cheap flight out of Australia...

You're paying him way too much. 400+ a season is ridiculous for a centre, especially one with only one good season under his belt.
But how many good seasons ahead of him? Maybe a bit premature but certainly not ridiculous.

re: Cameron Smith, I don't think the Broncos are actually interested. Why would they buy PJ Marsh if it was Smith they really wanted?

And Ennis. But I reckon the Broncos are just trying to bring CB over by bring over the whole Storm squad.

Lockyer's contract is up at the end of 2009 and hes already made it quite clear that if hes in good shape and form then he will look to go to England.

Also off contract in 2009 Craig Bellamy and Cameron Smith, things will work out for the Broncos...

Hope Gallen gets the maximum possible weeks for what he did to Laffranchi. The guy's nothing but a thug, can't wait till someone takes his head off.

Yeah, that was a crap effort by him imo. Very, very ordinary. When I first saw it I thought he was going for a gouge.

Can say that about his mate Greg Bird. Remember his long holiday in 2004?

Isn't Billy Slater off contract around that time frame as well?

I think Slater's made it quite clear on his view of the Broncos over the last few years. Would be surprised if he ever suited up in the maroon and yellow, although money does talk.

Carroll won't be at the Broncos next season and would imagine he has a bit of money with his contract. Don't think Smith will end up at the Broncos, but the Titans could get him.

Brain Waldron gave the Broncos a spray by questioning how they can afford Folau under the salary cap (TBF Brisbane has had a lot of high earners leave last year and before), granted Carroll is retiring, not sure who else will probably be leaving.
