In the past plenty of players were picked out of the country or Brisbane comp before the NSWRL expanded the comp. However, in this day and age, it certainly would be a very rare occurrence.
yeh, since 1988 i doubt there would be any at all...

Has any other player been selected to play for their country before playing a 1st grade game?
The Warriors didn't come into the NRL until 1995, there would have been plenty before then.

My tips for the week as entered in Kyle's comp:

Roosters
Dragons
Storm
Warriors
Tigers
Knights
Bulldogs

Really, really tough week. You'd expect Wests to beat the Sharks & the Dogs to get up past Souths, but a lot of the others are marginal calls. Roosters have loads of injuries, but they are at home & Tate and Hodges are out so I take them just, I fancy Saints to bounce back after being royally shafted by Newcastle despite Manly being in good nick & I think home-advantage should tell for the Knights in the tie of the round.

Anything more than 2 & I'm chuffed! :p

Current table:

1. 22 greg'
1. 22 The Argonaut
3. 21 BoyBrumby
3. 21 Tipping God
5. 16 blazeblaze
6. 15 Burpey
7. 1 Cloete

just a small preview this week

Broncos vs Roosters
Both teams injury plauged, but i think Brisbane can get over the top in the forwards. im thinking a low scoring game too.
Result: Brisbane by 4
First try: Darren Lockyer

Manly vs Dragons
Manly coming off a good win while Dragons were terrible last week, i think Manly are a good chance in this game and if you are looking to tip an upset this week this is your best bet.
Result: Manly by 10
First Try: Steve Bell

Penrith vs Melbourne
First game in Adelaide in years, Penrith will start favourites but it should be a good game, whoever controls the game in the halves will win, with Scott Hill missing for melbourne im leaning towards Penrith.
Result: Penrith by 14
First try: Cameron Smith

Raiders vs Warriors
Almost a case of who cares, neither of these sides are gonna effect anyones season the way they are going. It takes a brave man to tip either of these teams, so im going for a draw :p
Result: Draw
First try: Craig Frawley

Tigers vs Sharks
If Wests are ever gonna win without marshall this is the game. Kimmorley is out for Sharks, but they do get Vagana back. Campbelltown is worth 10 points to them, so i think they can get over the line.
Result: Tigers by 2
First try: Darren Albert

Knights vs Cowboys
Huge match here, have to go Knights simply cause of the home ground advantage, cowboys could just as easily put on a cricket score though, i dont know how anyone can tip this game with any sort of confidence.
Result: Knights by 8
First try: Johnathon Thurston

Souths vs Bulldogs
have to wait till Monday for this game, but i wont matter for Souths, they'll get flogged again anyway. Bulldogs barely broke into a sweat in beating canberra last week and im expecting a similar effort against Souths.
Result: Bulldogs by 22
First try: Reni Maitua

Melbourne have the bye

Hmm i can't deside whether to go for Manly or Dragons. To go with my heart or my head? I know Dragons have been in pretty bad form and they still have Ryles, Bailey and Head out, but Timmins comes back. I think he will make a big difference to them and Ryles and Bailey really don't make much difference anyway. Manly form has been ok, but not earth shattering and they haven't won three games in a row since 1998. Add to the fact they are playing at night and we all know thats a 10 point start to the other team, even if its at Brookvale.

Never tip the Warriors. Other than that I agree, though it isn't really Western Suburbs is it? What about Balmain?

Mat Head played Premier League last week (and played very well from what I've heard) and is doing the same this week. I hope he breaks back into the first grade line-up soon because he is a quality halfback and would help the Dragons cause greatly.

Just wondering, does anybody expect WIllie Tonga to switch codes, or say where he is or go to the Gold Coast. It would be a big boost for the Titans if they can get him as they have a winger, a five eight, halfback, a prop, another prop/second rower, and a hooker.

If he does switch codes I hope he doesn't go there expecting to be a certaintly (like Gasnier if he switches) for the WC because unless they are geniuses in the making from when they first start I don't know if they will actually offer anything to the Wallaby's when it is forwards they need.

I dunno about Tonga, but I think it's kinda perverse that Union are constantly looking to recruit from League (with mixed results, it has to be said) & they let someone like Thaiday slip through their fingers.

Although, TBF, he's looking like a totally different player for The Knights.

Personally they should be spending their obvious tens of millions on developing their own players because there are talented players on the club scene, and as you said with mixed results by the league players who have joined the dark side (© Darren Lockyer approx 2004) and surprisingly the one who succedded was Brad Thorn when he went off to play for the All Blacks.

Anyway Burpey's got his wish since Head is supposed to be playing tomorrow.

Jason Robinson....?

Tuqiri & Rogers have had their moments too; even Dell looks to be improved this year as well.

Won't mention Henry Paul (unless the RFU set out to spend £200k+ on a 7s specialist) or Farrell tho.

You'll be making your way out to some Titans games won't you Craigos?
