tupou made his debut in 2004, played 3 games and was picked in the NZ train on squad, but he has serious issues in defence and positionally in both attack and defence, hes got a lot of potential but for people to be saying hes the next Tuqiri is a bit off the mark, sure he's got size and speed, but he needs to learn to use it to his advantage...
hes also pretty poor under the high ball...
IIRC, he played in that NZ "A" team that hammered the Aussies before that Tri-Nations game last year, but I looked him up on the Broncos website yesterday and it says he's only played 9 First Grade games. Just wondered where they'd been keeping him.
He may be weak in some areas, but from what I've seen, he's got all the raw materials to succeed.

I love the way Tupou decided to smash MacKinnon before putting the ball down. Had a good chuckle when I saw that.

lol yeh, it was like he wasnt even there...
if tupou continues to play to his strengths and work hard on his game he should be a bloody good player in the future...

Looks like one of my school mates might be making his debut for Manly. Adam Cuthbertson got named on the bench, he should play as i doubt they will pick an extra back on the bench in Paul Stephenson.

EDIT: Wrong Guy

hes still long odds to stay, not sure if Manly can afford him though, if they manage to fit him under the cap questions will be asked...
If Menzies & BK retire and Monnas get dropped at the end of the season we can afford him easier, plus another quaility player.

i dont think Menzies will retire and Monaghan still has 2 years to go on his contract, BK is 50/50 really as well...
i know Manly dont have much room under the cap now as they had to offload Sam Harris to get under it a few months ago...

If Travis continues his form, i can't see Monaghan seeing out his contact, Manly will probably release him. Menzies and BK are both 50/50, i be every surprised if they are both there next season. Though i would be quite happy.

They cant just "release" monaghan though, he will still have to be paid his contract as part of the salary cap, even if he moves to another club part of his contract will be paid by Manly...
i remember a couple of years ago Todd Payten went from Canberra to Easts to Wests and because he should have still be under contract at Canberra and Easts by the time he got to the Tigers he was virtually playing for them for free...

Oh my understanding is that if you realease a play then you only have to pay them under the salary cap what the other club doesn't play them.

Yeah the Eagles would still have to pay out part of his contract UNLESS a club was willing to pay all he his on, and my understanding is he is on a bit and doubt any club would be willing to pay that kind of money for him...

In other news i have it on good authority that the tigers will be putting in a BIG offer for Jamie Soward come June 30, it will be interesting to see how the rorters respond, if they do manage to keep hold of him they will be paying BIG dollars..

Raise in the salary cap, hasn't been mentioned here yet.

$3.36m IIRC. Make make things a little easier for the Dragons for at least next season :)

imo its not gonna make that much difference because most clubs will throw it at one or two players, an extra 50k wont be enough to keep Gasnier though...

Raiders want Soward too apparently, hes a raiders junior so theres a chance he may go back, im not sure who Tigers other options are, cause putting all your eggs in one basket is very risky when it comes to the open market, look at Souths they threw everything at Orford and Anasta and they took so look to decide what they were doing all the other high profile players were taken...

No, it's not major but will ease things a little. It should be enough to keep one more of our young guns.

hopefully it helps brisbane fend of GC when the come looking for our good young players, they can have guys like Nick Parfitt and Nick Kenny, but we're keeping Sam Thaiday, Darius Boyd etc...
