So if they cater to a rank turner will it be :

Young

Williamson
Conway
Mitchell
Blundell *
Bracewell
Sodhi
Southee
Wagner
Patel

Actually a decent looking nz battling line up. I'm hoping Mitchell can step up with the ball and bracewell can show something. Runs shouldn't be a issue. Taking 20 wickets though.....

Yeah in theory our batting should be good unless there's a heap of turn on offer or they're exhausted from days in the field. Pakistan are still missing Afridi too, right?

Taking 20 wickets though... our bowling will rely heavily on Ajaz and Southee. And I've decided Sodhi is going to shock everyone and bowl well, going to be unexpectedly accurate and turn the ball just enough both ways, pretty much Anil Kumble I reckon.

Pumped for this match to start ?

Yeah Sodhi was bowling really quite well earlier this season (this is not some expert observation, merely that I noticed he wasn't bowling long hops every second ball). On the other hand, he could totally turn out like Zahid Mahmood if they spare the time to work out how to pick his googly.

Not sure where to put this

But I caught some of the Christmas eve cricket. The Wellington game in particular.

Peter Younghusband has one of the strangest vibes I've ever seen. Man was trying his best at the toss interview to look human.

What’s the percentage of tosses won in the SC for New Zealand over the last decade, I swear it would be well under 50 percent

Looks like we've picked exactly the side I selected, except Southee won't bat 11 .

Goes against my better judgement to play Macewell ahead of Phillips so Macewell needs to bowl well to make it worthwhile.

Yeah that's very close to mine too, though Southee would bat 11 .

I too have Conway opening, Young going to the bench, through prepped to take Nicholls' spot if he fails. Would probably leave Nicholls at 4, Mitchell 5.

I lean towards the balance with Blundell at 6 given Pakistan's recent pitches. I see Macewell as 50/50 batting/bowling for a Pakistan tour whereas Phillips is 80/20 batting/bowling and I think we need the extra bowling. So I don't object to Macewell getting the nod at bat at 7, though I'm pleased Phillips is on tour.

Bowling has the obvious picks of Southee and Ajaz, and then agree with selecting aging Wagner before Henry. Sure as hell not picking Tickner. So that leaves Sodhi and Henry for the last spot, confidence is not high in either so flip a coin.

Overall our batting looks good - batting pipeline is strong and we can be confident having good players like Phillips and Young on the fringe of the team. The bowling is a real worry though.
Sodhi to take an 8-fer.

Probably NZ’s best XI, would have Young ahead of Nicholls but at least he’s not opening. Work cut out now with Pakistan having won the toss.

Have to feel for Young. Nicholls has to score runs this series or he’s done for you’d have to think.
