Am i the only person who finds the wilson thing hilarious??
Are NZ so hard up for talent they need to call up a rugby player who is a decade past his never really good to begin with prime? loll
The serious answer to that question is yes, we are that hard up for talent at the moment and Wilson deserved his selection. He hasn't made a good fist of it so far admittedly, but it's a bit hard to judge him on one game. (Don't think you can take much from the 20/20 game.)

Totally agree.. Vincent will have been bought in probably to play as 12th man because he is a great fielder. James Marshall is definetly playing. Interesting that there is less controversy regarding his selection than there was for Wilson when they both really were equally suprising selections

I think James selection has more to do with how his brother has adapted to international cricket than his own form actually.

I heard on Radio Sport yesterday that odds are for Papps to replace Wilson and J Marshall to replace Tuffey and NZ to use Astle as the 5th bowler.

Seems a good move to me to go in with a batsmen heavy lineup.
That's a very risky boling line up though isn't it, 5 including Astle.

Yes i must admit I feel a little uneasy about it however McMillan can help Astle bowl his 10 if need be

Yep. Assuming Wilson plays we will be relying on him, Astle and McMillan getting through 20 overs which is very risky as you say. I think Astle is reliable enough for 10 but its the other two I'm worried about.

I wouldn't want Astle bowling 10 with very little back-up.

If he were the back-up to a more specialist bowler then I would be a lot more comfortable.

With the depth of the NZ batting I really don't see why they'd want to weaken the bowling attack so much.

Astle drops it on or around the spot and rarely gets collared. I agree that another bowler should have been bought into the squad when it became clear Adams couldn't play. The news came so late that they could probably only consider Aucklanders as replacements and in that case I probably would have gone with Tama Canning instead of Vincent.

Really looking forward to the game, even though I'm stuck in the ASB stand, wish I could be on the terraces, so much more fun. Do you think its possible to move? Would be cool. But ASB stand isn't too bad, good view from there, just not as much atmosphere.

Good to see you wait a fair while before casting your intelligent eye over a player's ability. He's played one (proper) match against the Aussies and got caned - give him a go, for God's sake.

New Zealanders really are a melodramatic lot when it comes to sport. You could have sworn the sky was falling onto the North and South Islands after the match in Christchurch, if you listened to the media hype and talkback.

Australia will be announcing their 14 man Test Squad next week. The squad pretty much picks itself:

Hayden; Langer; Ponting; Martyn; Clarke; Katich; Gilchrist; Warne; Gillespie; Kasprowicz; McGrath; Lee; Watson; McGill.
