Amazing stat there...

At tea yesterday, New Zealand were 2/142, having batted through two sessions. At tea today, Australia have been out there for one session exactly, and are 2/143. Ponting unbeaten on 76 off 80, and looking set for a big one.

Three pulls from Ponting for three sixes. On target for a century by stumps at the moment.
Hmm..lets see. Assuming he doesn't go out, keeps scoring at the same rate and gets half the strike..he'll score..

34(overs)*6(balls)/2(half the strike)*.95(SR)=96.9 runs in the last session!

OK, that's a bit much to expect, but it'd be nice to watch. Maybe he's sick of Gilly's PR and wants to show he's not the only one who can play like that :)

congrats Ponting on a fine century in a otherwise boring game.

I haven't been watching.. watched the LEAGUE instead.

Saw his dismisall though. Great catch by McCullum

And at drinks..ie, after 1.5 sessions, Aus are 3/198 while NZ were 6/199 after 3 sessions.

Unfortunately, with Ponting gone, I think they'll fall off the pace a bit. A bit of a shame, because with the weather forecast I think quick runs/wickets will be needed for a result.

Martyn gone!! That was a surprise; he was looking gooooood. That was a pretty special ball from Wiseman though.

With Wiseman and Vettori bowling well and the pitch starting to show some wear I don't think Australia will want to bat again. There were some balls in the evening session today that barely got off the ground after pitching on a length, and there's some turn around too. New Zealand will want to get Clarke out before he gets set tomorrow since he usually seems vulnerable early on, and hopefully stop Gilchrist from making it four centuries in as many tests. Australia will be looking to bat most of the day and hope that the weather stays away long enough for them to bowl New Zealand out in the fourth and fifth days.

Clarke 18 from 59 balls

Must be some good bowling to tie him down that much
I think he was trying desperately to find some form. He seems to be really unsure of himself early in his innings, much like Ponting was early in his career. It's not such a bad thing as long as he gets himself set and doesn't just try and flay the ball around from the start like he has recently.

he's certainly had the same problem as ponting, century on debut then running into a slump, lets just hope he gets his form back soon

Explainable as it is the first form slump he has had happen to him. It is almost what Hayden did when he was in a worse form slump than he is now, he just tried to stay in and then get some runs on the board.

maybe take a break from excessive training, worked for Hayden a couple of years back
He's a busy character, unlike Hayden who is more spiritual. I don't think time away would do him good.
