James marshall is in for the 3rd test.
Mcmillan has been dropped.
Bowling attack stays the same.
would have liked to see us try bond, nothing to lose.
Anyway our performance hasnt been any worse than pakistan recently vs aus

I thought that was a good decision personally. Batsmen are always afforded less benefit of the doubt if they don't play a shot, and I think it would have hit. A bit like the decision that Langer got in India that a lot of people complained about.
How can you think it would hit when it was clearly missing....Are you blind??

ODI's are already lost and the test series should have been. Our test ranking is crap and Bond has more impact in ODI's so why risk the guy when his back is stabilised with titanium?

Ever heard of being irresponsible? Cause you are if you suggest we play him because "we have nothing to lose". God.

Bond is ready, and NZ's bowling is limp without him

Our test ranking is crap, but there's only one way of improving it! And by drawing the series, having lost 3-0 last time, will improve it a decent amount.

You say that he is better in ODIs. True but he has taken 40-odd wickets in 10 tests; that's not rubbish.

I don't see how Bond is at risk now, when he can bowl 37 overs in two days for Canterbury without problems, and handled reasonable workloads in other matches.

It appears James will open the batting, too....

A mistake IMO.
Sure, Fleming is a liability opening, but wouldn't it make sense to bring in a specialist opener? And James Marshall's form is hardly brilliant; playing in the middle order for ND. No, a couple of fifties in 8 innings does not justify national selection. Gaffeney or How (with a little push) should have been considered first. Or forced Vincent to open again, though this would be unfortunate for him.

And somehow Fulton still can't find a place in the team! Next he will play in the practice game against SL, and if by chance has an off day then will not be selected for that series!

I'm getting so ****ed off with the selectors that I'd almost be happy for NZ to lose the last match so the public wants to linch them.

well good news that Macca has gone.................and I don't see him getting back for the SRL series even if there are injuries..............hopefully for both his sake and NZL cricket this time around he will realise that runs in domestic comp is not enough on it's own, and he will do the neccessary to get his game sorted..................

they have been impressed with Hamish's application technique v the AUS seam attack, and with James having a similar game & formerly opening in domestic comp his selection to open was expected - particularly as How is the only real alternative & is not scoring atm...............no doubt we will see a similar 'back of a length' attack to him as the AUS have v Hamish................

and IMO it's a good move to have Flem at #4 while he is struggling as it gives him a longer look at the pitch etc b4 having to face...............

no changes to the bowling, but I'm still half expecting Wiseman to get the nod v Gilchrist if the pitch is going to be anything like those used so far..............

Is Wiseman going to be brought in for the Auckland test? Despite his excellent form, it's a big ask to bowl on the typically seaming Eden Park wickets, with Hayden, Gillcrist and co. looking for the short boundaries.

Bond should have been sent the SOS. He'll probably be selected against SL in the tour match, so why not play in Auckland against a team he has the wood on in the most recent contests?

I do hope Fulton gets a chance within the next series or two. He's put the figures on the board - far and above any others on a consistent basis over the last few years. He's got over 2500 runs at a shade over 50 - worth a decent crack as far as I'm concerned.

71, 51, 62, 37 in his past four innings. Marshall has a good technique - why not take a punt on them like they did with Cumming and Hamish? To be fair, all the "dark horse batting" selections have all paid off lately.....

As said elsewhere, the tests have so far been played on the best batting tracks. I hate to think what will happen in Auckland if the ball is moving off the pitch, like it can.

The bowling punts in the past few years, apart from Bond and the recall of an in-form Martin, have been a complete failure. Butler (we must have a fast bowler; ignoring the fact that he could barely make the ND team at the time), O'Brian, Wilson, and Hamilton (though he was overdue for a chance).

Taking punts and ignoring the outstanding form players of the domestic competitions is one of the core weaknesses of NZC. It's not as though they will get a bigger return, and the odds are in favour of form; especially over the long term.
