Whereas mkst teams would cry out for players of Duminy and van Zyl's class.
Yeah, South Africa would do well to replace them with real batsmen. Ballance, Compton and Robson along with Hales and Vince are the class and quality of players they need if they ever want to get back to number one. That depth is something they can only dream about.

Ballance averages more than most of South Africa's top 7.

Cook, elgar, amla, faf, abd, bavuna, qdk is a wayyy better batting line up. Cook, elgar, bavuma are streets ahead of hales, vince, ballance.

Ballance has proven more than all of those 3. And if you are going on "he looks awkward/ugly" then that rules Cook/Elgar out as well.

Well you are an ungrateful so and so. I remember when you were nervous before a job interview you had for some position in Hamilton, Out of the kindness of my heart, dick that I am, I took 30 minutes of my time to write you a good natured post with advice about trick questions to expect on the day of the interview. Sure enough on the day of your interview they asked you those trick questions and my advice played a very very small role in you getting the position. The majority was obviously your own talent.
Did you say thank you Hurricane for taking the time to be nice to me and offering advice? No you didn't. And now I am a dick.

I reckon that you and half the ravens have twirled yourself into some twisted knot against me for who knows why. One year on this web site I was very popular then suddenly I wasn't amongst the ravens
and I personally have never changed my personality.

Anyway - I don't like you anymore either after calling me names in this thread and I hope you take another break from this web site and this time for much longer than a few months.

And you don't understand batting by the way. By memory your top score in senior cricket is 12 or something I seem to recall.
Hi hurricane, I also might need some help with interviews, I'm applying for grad jobs, can you help me?

I'm talking actual results and potential, ballance has zero potential with his current technique. Not batting aesthetic

England's middle order bats being rubbish has nothing to do with the discussion at hand.

Come on mate. Ballance has been terrible. I'd like to see him do decently, he seems a good enough bloke for a Pom, but he's been flat out hideous for a good while now.

He's not a Pom, he;'s Zimbabwean, so he'll be all right, if a little weird.

Steyn/Vern/Rabada is stronger than Anderson/Broad/Woakes but it isn't waayyyy stronger considering England will have a good 4th seamer in Stokes and SA don't have a 5th bowler.
I would argue whether it is actually stronger on current form - Anderson and Broad aren't top 4 ranked bowlers for nothing. Guess it depends on whether Woakes can back his efforts up.

Lol
Anderson and Broad were rather ordinary in the recently concluded series.

By their own standards they had fairly poor series yet still turned out fairly good figures. The fact remains that even after these so called ordinary series, they're both ranked in the top 4 in the world, so they must be doing something right.

Are we going back to the "Anderson and Broad are better than Steyn and Philander" discussion? Because I made a deep dive into the archives and that was quite a discussion back in 2012. Would be nice to add Rabada in as well.

I think Vern and Steyn are better than Jim/Broad but my point was Saffers 5 vs England 5, I'd give the edge to England because of Stokes

Anderson was also ordinary in South Africa. But he performed brilliantly in the early season May tests versus weak Sri Lankan batting in helpful conditions. He always knows how to raise his game when it matters.

To be fair to Jim he was injured in SA and with the Saffers bed wetting efforts against Broad (noted strong batting line up) he wasn't required to brush them aside
