I think people acknowledge he was a huge loss but he'd declined so much he really wasn't worth a spot in the side at all.
Oh yeah I acknowledge that but it's the total disinterest in replacing that specific role in the side that surprises me. It's all just hitters.

You can't go entirely by profile when selecting batsmen, you go by the dudes in form in domestics. Unless you're arguing sarfaraz hasn't earned a call up.

Doesn't explain why you keep wilting against Australia at home tbf. Something mental there at this point.
Those tours tend to be few and far between (only 3 since 2005 if you can believe it) and each time AUS have caught NZ at a low ebb and not given them a look in. In 2016 for example Boult and Southee were coming off a ridiculously mismanaged workload from more than year prior, Taylor was injured too.

The series early this year actually very similar to this ongoing one - Aus batting was very vulnerable but somehow pulled through each time, their bowlers were relentless and Lyon found unusually favourable conditions in Wellington which NZ didn’t factor in at all.

Sure, that last series was pathetic, & seriously tainted my view of the current generation. Winning here would make up for it, & should help the team going forward mentally.

What does Latham do here. Persist with spin indefinitely? Is it just not an option to bowl the seamers at all? India did keep Bumrah in the bowling mix.

It's hard to believe this is Day 3, I just woke up after an afternoon nap to a Ravi Shastri Western Union ad, it feels like Day 4 to me rather than Day 3.

This test has moved fast.
