Having a party tonight in some fairly average hotel and some guy says why aren't you watching the cricket?
Been listening to the radio for the last 2 days cus I thought this stinking hotel wouldn't have it ffs
Anyway it's a pleasure having it going in the background now.

Without looking into it didn't he open in a pretty tough bowling era? Would be an interesting one to see the true average for. I suspect that 38 is worth more like 43-44.
WI were obviously very good, and early on in his career so were Aus. But late 80s/early 90s, his average really ramped up. Combination of knowing how game better and facing - relatively - easier attacks.

Good player for sure and, for me, better than Edgar by a way. Though Brucie walking away at 30 after doing the hard yards didn't help his own average.

Was there a particular reason for this? Seems an odd time to walk away when the side was winning series in Eng and Aus.

his average after 40 games was just over 30. Did not know that, pretty weird curve for a top order batsman - usually they have a big mid-career peak and then a gradual or sudden taper as their eye goes.

Brilliant day of cricket. A lot has happened in 2 days. Hopefully we can bat until well after lunch. 40 overs x 3.75 would give a lead of 450. If India can smash the record for a 4th innings chase, well done to them.

You lost 4-1 to this bunch of wimps lmao
I always imagined if this Indian team lost at home it would be one of those sneaky 1-0 two match series win where one match is rained out and the second is a freak batting collapse.

I do think oddly India let their guard down here. NZ shouldn't have been able to get 200 batting second. Can't help thinking if it was Aus or Eng they would have tightened the screws.

I just don't think cricket was his main focus at the time. He was an accountant or a lawyer, and I think he focused on that for a time.

He ended up coming back to cricket years later, though, as an administrator and coach.

I said 400 and beyond, we should get as many runs as we can before declaring, I wasn't banking on Blundell playing a rare good knock.
Do I really have to explain this to you? If you declare you are NOT getting as many runs as you can.

Good work from Blundell and Phillips seeing it through to EOD, nice to see Blundell managing to dig in at a crucial time. Phillips looked very vulnerable but kept his cool, hopefully he can find some scoring options tomorrow.

Tried too hard with the new ball maybe, probably expected/hoped the spinners would turn the screws from the first over itself. Latham and Conway’s brisk start was pretty crucial.

We are getting washed by Washington again but the lead is getting close to 300, we just need to get the lead to 400 and beyond and then declare,
They don't need the lead to be anywhere near 400. Unless NZ drop half a dozen chances they have enough already.

Edgar scored a great ton in the infamous underarm match, it should have been a match winning knock.

Greg Chappell refused to walk after a clean catch from Snedden and went on to score a cheating.90. along with ordering a cheating underarm ball.
