*Official* New Zealand tour of India 2024

The only wins I'd definitely put ahead of it would be:

1) beating WI in 1980 at the peak of their powers.
2) innings win v Aus at the Gabba in 85
The first NZ win in India was pretty incredible too. Best batsman Crowe unavailable. Hadlee 6 wickets in the first innings and Bracewell with 6 wickets in the second.

Unless you hate them, probably to an extent? But yeah, if you hate them, it definitely cheers you up somewhat.
i guess my point is that not making 100 makes it hard to hate them. expanding beyond (beneath?) 90, i find the reason im loving roots purple patch is because of all the 100s he did not make earlier in his career. In the usual scheme of things i should be hoping a bus hits him everytime he walks onto the pitch, but now im just loving his performances.

Think India will do fine in Aussie, after the 3rd new ball its started hooping around and Henry is deadly with his wicket to wicket bowling with some nip, and O'rourke was really troubling the Aussies earlier this year with his pace and movement, which is suprising as he only bowls about 140kph, but it must be something about his height and the way he releases the ball, he seemed more nippy and pacy than Cummins and co.
You know 140k is up there as far as speed is concerned. He’d probably be slightly ahead of Cummins and Haze and not far behind Starc.

Yeah, a great win, though worth noting that modern India is a stronger outfit than the team of the 1980's, and so winning here would be a more significant achievement. If NZ can close this out they'll be the first non-Big 3 nation to win a test in India since 2010.

Also why does Glen Phillips seem a better bowler than Patel? even Ravindra got more spin than Patel
as weird as it sounds given his 10-fer, patel isn't actually optimised for indian conditions. He's always been a touch on the slow side which is better in NZ/Eng. Phillips is a side-arm darter which is perfect for indian pitches.

The very best bowlers seem to deliberately pull their speed back to fall into that sweet spot as well. Seems to be the perfect pace to still hurry up the batsman and extract a bit more life from the pitch while overly not risking injury through overexertion.

That was the second win, Hedley Howarth represent!

Good to see "flat-track bully, only scores runs in high-scoring draws" Andrew Jones with a crucial 78 in the second innings of that 1988 test ... second highest score of the match.

Didn't tune in after the rain came in after the first 90 mins....what happened?? we looked clueless and miserable but somehow took the last 7 wickets for no runs?

Wow its so good to see we took a chance on a player of o'rourke's profile, tall, pacy, awkward bounce and angle....looks like a clutch spell from him to get 3 quick middle order wickets and break indias back pretty much. And that's something huge n new for us i feel, we usually struggle taking wickets in clumps like that when we tour or face the big teams in tests. Always some niggly partnership from some random dumbf***s who take the game away from us and then we roll for 100 odd to hand the match over.

Yes! Couldn't put it any better. We can imagine but can't fully appreciate the exertions fast bowlers put themselves through. The faster you bowl the shorter your impact and the greater the exertion and risk of injury. Best to bowl within your limit for longer periods. It seems to be the obvious explanation why test bowling speeds are seemingly lower than say, T20 speeds, when fast bowlers can really push their limit.

The match report from the third test of the 1969/70 series is insane. NZ definitely robbed of a series victory.

Trying to figure out what this Cricinfo introduction means.
8:40am, day 5, session 1: First things first, the Bengaluru weather is perfect... for a walk in Cubbon Park or Church Street. Cricket-wise, eh, not as much. Sorry for the swindle but the clouds hanging low in Bengaluru is a pretty sight, and it could be a real pretty sight for New Zealand, who are eyeing their first Test win in India since 1988
Does that mean it's good weather or bad weather?
