To add more on young...

Had written him off as someone who just doesn't perform under pressure, and after that aus test series earlier this year i had enough of him, really thought the stage was set for him to perform and impose himself in those 2 tests. Felt let down because the expectations with him were quit high... rememberin his 2 odi hundreds against aussie in the untelevised exhibition matches leading up to the 2019 world cup. The ones where warner and smith both came back after sandpaper-gate.

In this series though he saved all his best innings for the toughest spells india had to offer. Remarkable turnaround in his mentality ... if he isn't shoulder barging garden gnome kane williamson out of his way into the batting lineup now, he never will. I hope his confidence and competitive mentality now allows him to demand that place in the side if stead even hints at dropping him. Kane can easily come in for blundell with the gloves going to latham.

Another thing I want to highlight is his commitment and skill at short leg. Took plenty to the body and completed some crucial, athleticly impressive catches. What amazing reflexes. Heroic stuff...just shows you the whole hearted character of the man.

Hats off, Will Young. You have arrived.

this hasn't quite sunk in yet, so just going to enjoy it

immediate thought that made me smile ear to ear, probably the greatest individual happiness i'm feeling is for will young at the moment
I'm also happy for Mark Chapman. Must be one of the most relieved people in the world. Nothing worse than coming on as 12th man and shelling one (have done it myself).

The only uncomfortable thing in all of this now, is that Gary Stead might be of the most credentialed cricket coaches of ALL TIME, not just in a New Zealand context.

Maybe India will make him their next coach.

Expect players to spend 10 years making runs in the Ranji Trophy before getting into the test side. No more IPL wonderkids playing for India any time soon.

We've had threads about what your side would look like under Bazball, but what would your side look like under Steadball?

His career is worth a proper analysis. Gives absolutely woeful quotes in interviews and despite his extremely conservative selections he has lucked into playing the right guys at opportune times (Ravindra moving up to a mote natural batting position after KW injury in the WC). Has presided over some of our most galling defeats.

But, he can respond with one word: "Scoreboard".

Yup.

WTC championship win
WC finals in ODI's and T20's
Series wins in India, England and the UAE (NZ's overall away test series record has to be one of the better ones in this period 3 wins, 3 draws, 4 defeats)
First series win v SA*
Just 1 test series defeat on home soil in 6 years

Title for his book?

Steady: Lessons from NZ's Greatest Coach
Lesson 1: Creating a culture of results not being the ultimate goal, leads to low expectation in the public and the team. This frees us up to play our best cricket, sometimes (sometimes our worst) and when we do play well, it is a genuine surprise and source of great enjoyment to the fans.

Don't asterisk that win mate, you play who's in front of you! Well done NZ! Been following this series closely and the last day was top tier viewing. You just didn't know if India would pull it off.
