There was no way they could've picked him at the time because he was unproven since his injury.

Had the game happened a couple of months later then he'd likely have been in there.

Mr. President,

Today must be a Great Day for you and your membership.

What are your thoughts of the much awaited "Herioc and Triumphant Return of The Great AA" ?

More recriminations and backlash.

Zimbabwe contracts reviewed after abject performances

Cricinfo staff

August 26, 2005

Zimbabwe Cricket are reported to be revising player contracts in response to the team's dreadful on-field performances.

New contracts, which are due to start on September 1 when the existing ones expire, should have been sent to the players' representative by now, but a report in today's Zimbabwe-based Independent claims that the board is rethinking its position in the light of recent defeats. The contracted players enjoy a number of benefits which include sponsored cars, fuel and mobile phones. In a country with massive unemployment, such a privileged position is extremely valuable.

But the board are considering reducing the number of contracted players - some sources claim that as many as 28 are on some form of central contract - with only senior players and the captain getting traditional deals. Others would be offered short-term, performance-based terms. "You can't just wake up and give contracts," a source close to the negotiations told the newspaper. "A contract is an important document. It is a commitment that one makes that they will care for someone's welfare. But you have to make sure that you get the best out of the contracted person.

"What we are getting is the opposite. These players are paid to play for five days but they give us two days. You can't just give contracts in the light of the scenario we have. We've got to look at other ways of doing it."

Several sources have told Cricinfo that some of the younger players appear to be operating in a comfort zone, safe in the knowledge that they had contracts and were unlikely to be replaced. This had led to them becoming arrogant and complacent. One recently capped player, described as "unapproachable and with a massive attitude", was seen to respond to some basic advice offered by a senior overseas professional by turning his back and walking away.

Wilfred Mukondiwa, the board's human resources manager, told the newspaper that no firm decision had been made. "We are very much aware that the current contracts expire on August 31, and an appropriate decision will be taken at the right time."

Who is the young player with the massive attitude? Something tells me it could be one of Ewing, Mpofu or Dabengwa.

Well played Bondy and the rest by the way, just what Fleming said would happen.

Easily forgetting that Zimbabwe is also in the tournament against whom he can get easy runs. 8-) ;)

India Vs Zimbabwe, who do you think going to win? this is the question people are going to ask now.
Well obviously Zimbabwe's batting is better, but I think India's bowling should just be enough for India to edge it.

As much as Im sure thats a joke, I dont think its too far off the mark.

Taylor, Carlisle, Streak, Taibu and Ewing all look in pretty decent form with the bat, so I really do think their batting is outweighing India's at this stage.

I fear for Andy Blignaut though. He seems to be following the exact same path of Travis Friend. Started off as a bowler, and then developed a big hitting lower order batting game to complement his bowling. Had several back injuries, lost pace and lost effectiveness with the ball, but the batting continued to develop. I really hope Blignaut doesnt turn out to be another Friend, as Zimbabwe need his bowling more. They definately need to pick Rainsford for the next match, but I dont really know who they should drop. Blignaut and Streak are automatic picks, Utseya plays a good containing role (usually!), Ewing impressed with the bat, Mahwire was in good form in the test series, and Ireland was impressive (well... better than the other bowlers!) on debut.

They cannot drop Ireland for sure, because they need good bowlers and he seems to be a good bowler non the less,Rainsford should be picked I think Ewing should be dropped alot of runs he gave away with the bowling and he is their as a bowler so zimbabwe should have no problem dropping him and giving rainsford a chance,

seriously oram sucks...
mox pearl, i wouldn't say that quite yet. oram wasn't that flash with the ball today, but remember he is coming back from injury and has slightly remodelled his technique to make his approach to the crease a bit smoother so he isn't putting extra stress on his back. I think that Oram needs to keep on bowling through this tri-series, and get some hard practice in at the nets to get the ball on the spot like he consistently did before his stress reaction.

MoxPearl said:
so... bond has just come back from injury aswell.. and look at him....
Bond has had more bowling practice than Oram, bond bowled in the later rounds of the domestic competition while oram was waiting for his back to heal. Bond also bowled more overs than Oram when they went with the NZC Academy to Brisbane.

It is great to see bondy back and bowling with pace, it makes the bowling attack look much better. Adams is looking suprisingly okay with the ball but am waiting for him to return to normal.

NZ's top order batting was very disappointing, stupid shot by Styris to get out especially when we were trying to rebuild from the loss of the earlier wickets. I would like to see H Marshall get some runs, he has been very disappointing this tour.
