I have actually never played T20. I have played numerous 5 over tournaments. Both for club 6-a-side days. And for one man tournaments or double wicket competitions we had amongst ourselves.

They are quite good for your hand eye and can build your confidence against bowlers in general. You go from blocking a good delivery to suddenly finding yourself smashing it one bounce for four over the bowlers head.

One day after playing two weeks of 5 over cricket games with my mates I was called into the First XI as injury cover. I was 16 and the rest of the team was 17-18. Despite being a batsman I was batting behind the wicket keeper and one of the bowling allrounders and found myself down at number 8. I went in there and just found myself hitting over the top and scored an aggressive 28 lickety split before going to the well once to often. Next week I was promoted to number 7 and had a permanent spot in the team.

It wasn't my best inning - that came after I settled down to two day cricket mode and scored an important 46 that dug the team out of a hole against the top team in the division and we went on to upset them and win the game. I think I got invited by the older boys to their party after the match. Me and my mate chipped in for a tray of steinlagers even though I hadn't drunken much before. A tray is 24 beers I don't know if they still sell them. I drank one beer all night, Mark had 3 and the older boys drank the other 20. Paradise city was on repeat all night long and me and Mark stood by the door trying to look staunch and not attract any attention. Our night was made when the cops arrived and asked us some questions. And the next Monday we were suddenly popular at school (which didn't last long).

"Member of the B crowd asks "So what was Mark like at the Party"
Cool kid answers "He stood by the door and tried to get pissed"
Same member of B crowd continues "What was Hurricane like"
Cool kid answers "He stood by the door and tried to get pissed"
"Cool."

What is the moral of this rather long and inconsequential story. Slogging does improve your confidence and can get your feet moving but it also impacts on your shot selection and mind set. Playing in limited over slogging matches is not recommended in my book unless you are a natural slogger like Brendon is anyway. And Guptil to a certain extent.

I had no objection to Kane playing T20 until I saw him on that highlight package. Like you I figured he needs to earn a living, and secondly up until last year he didn't slog anyway. He would score about 50 off 43 deliveries and often open for the Knights and be their rock. Now he has changed and so has my opinion. He didn't used to slog and now he does.

I don't think he does know what is best for him by the way. Or he wouldn't have gone off for $100K or some paltry sum to the IPL instead of preparing for a test match series.

'Cane betrays his 1%er status
I have a solution. Instead of 'Cane complaining about T20 cricket to CW fans, he should take the matter up with the IPL and tell them to play 50 over or better yet, three day cricket for the teams that consist of NZ batsmen. Hurricane can also tell the IPL fan audience that it is better.

He may not fancy the extra toll on Milne, Southee and Boult's workload, so for teams that consist of NZ bowlers, they should play T20 in England but at IPL levels because Boult will certainly want that $800,00, or better yet, a 10 over version.

Can't post it from phone but get to the veitchy on sport page and check out the SA bowling plan stuff up if true they slid their bowling plans under the door of some kiwi chick at the hotel by accident and she posted it on FB. Jimmy neesham offered her free tickets and revelled in his "dot ball option" status.

Very premature. It doesn't reflect a change of approach, rather it reflects Williamson is adding more and more weapons to his arsenal as he learns to maximise his effectiveness in an ever-wider range of situations.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Williamson ended his Test career striking at 80 plus.
You do realise that to do this and assuming he got to 10,000 runs he's need to score the next 6,800 at 123.73 per 100 balls?

That for me would be more than a little surprising.

Sorry, my post was not clear. I didn't mean 80 plus over his whole career, I mean in the matches near the end of his career.

Yeah, seasons towards the end of his career at 80+ rates, I interpreted it as. Plenty of people want some of what Viktor's smoking though, just generally speaking.

It's hard to take that 50k (or whatever figure, it may well be higher) as an isolated figure. You're either tight as a drum on those sort of things or you're letting every man and his network take you for an extra dosh in every sport you bid for.

In short I don't know enough, our media don't report effectively on it because all we seem to get in the Herald these days are Buzzfeed style stories and match reports/PR rewrites.

You're probably right though if you say SKY aren't seeing the big beast that is online streaming coming, especially when cable gets things roaring around NZ. If I get to a point in the future where I pay $200 for a streamed cricket service that gives me everything around the world, and another $200 for my golf, I'll do that. I already get my league online for $3 a week or $90 a season, and if I really want to watch rugby I go to a pub. I'm already using my old lady's SKY GO and refusing to pay $100 a month through the TV.
This post has made me realise that I could more or less ditch Foxtel already. I only bother with it for live league and cricket, and with the NRL LIve Pass added to the fact that StarSports and TenSports look like they're going to put all international cricket up online between them, it seems I don't really need it anymore.

You're probably not going to be too happy watching cricket in 480p in the long run though, Cribbage. I'll let you know when Ten Sports has bumped it up to 1080p. :fox:

Cricinfo saying New Zealand only going one spinner tomorrow...surely play 2 spinners if it's the same pitch that was used Sunday?
Cricinfo's attempts to give you the inside line with their probable XIs are a bit of a joke, a lot of the time. I see Moonda also has Munro at 4.

Haha yeah. StarSpots has already done that though so we're halfway there.

So it appears SA's top-secret, cunning plan is to bowl just outside off and move the ball away. Genius!

My first question would be, did they really slide it under the wrong door or did the kiwi chick just happen to be in Dale Steyn's room at the time? :naughty:

Secondly, every single "areas to bowl" entry says 4th stump. Serious, in depth analysis.
