So let's see....

Nicol:
ODI Average: 43.5
List A Average: 37.2
In 12 ODIs Nicol has 2x100 and 2x50.

Flynn:
ODI Average: 16.3
List A Average: 25.4
In 19 ODIs Flynn has a highest score of 35.

I'm not actually a big Nicol fan. He has a limited game. But in ODIs, I'd pick him ahead of Flynn every time.
What are the stats like minus minnows.

Yeah that's fair enough. Flynn is certainly a better bat than those stats indicate though.
He's also left handed which is reasonably useful considering if we play Nicol it's righties all the way down to Oram.

Obviously Ryder would replace Flynn if/when he's ready for a return.

TBF Nicol did score a lot of those runs vs a woeful Zimbabwe attack. Runs is runs though.

Edit: That's why I focused more on domestic limited over record as a reason why Nicol deserves a bit more leeway, because his international ODI record is only superficially ok.

141 @ 23.5 from 6 innings (3 each vs SA and Windies). SR of 60 as well.
If you take out minnows Nicol still has better stats than Flynn.

The point I was trying to make is that Nicol has a better ODI record than Flynn, no matter which way you slice it, and therefore I would pick Nicol over Flynn.

FFS, a highest score of 35 from 19 ODIs for a specialist batsman? Woeful.

They talked to Brendon McCullum earlier in the day. I may have misinterpreted what he said, but I'm pretty sure Latham's playing and will take the gloves.

Other links I could find:

Cricket: Taylor back for Black Caps - Sport - NZ Herald News

McCullum's return boosts Black Caps - Yahoo! New Zealand Sport
Thanks for the links. That's interesting.

I wonder if this is phase two of McCullum's quest to ditch his wicket keeping responsibilities in all forms of the game?

West Indies are not bad. But the Kiwis are not that good. I would like to see this Kiwi team against the English though. Tino Best should play tests. Lendl Simmons should play tests. West Indies could be better at bowling though.

Looks like it's confirmed that McCullum's not keeping. Seems strange, thought he wanted to continue keeping in limited overs games?

Mills out for Bracewell too. Yet to be convinced about Bracewell as a one-day bowler tbh, pretty harsh on Mills who's been our best ODI seamer for the last few years.

 The WI commentators calling a boundry when it never looked like it. FFS.

Cozier used to be a great commentator. Now he's just as big a **** as the rest of them.

I'd review that. It's Gayle.

The WI commentator: "Looked like it was missing leg and pitched outside leg".

Hawkeye shows it's out.
