Good to see McCullum stepping up and opening. Hopefully for the rest of the series now with Fults and Ruds looking like walking wickets.

I think the Sodhi/Craig question on non-turners would be closer than some are making out, too. Sodhi is definitely more likely to actually produce genuine wicket taking balls on non-turners as I've admitted all along, but you shouldn't really be relying on your spinner to take many in those conditions anyway and Craig would do a far better job of supporting the actual threats by bowling economically and keeping the pressure on. I'm not convinced that picking someone who's going to average 40-45 and go at 5rpo is really a better option than picking someone who's going to average 45-50 and go at 3rpo when you actually have a good new ball pair who you're basing your attack around.
Yeah but there's no evidence to suggest that Craig is going to be particularly economical either - especially not after today.

You always think the ball's going a lot further down leg than it actually is when your head falls over that much.
Latham should have grown a pair and told him not to review.

Damn you McCullum!!! Damn you all to hell!!! You blew it up!!! Now we're stuck with the **** opener carousel for the next billion years.

Though I won't claim Rutherford is that much more than a walking wicket, I still think McCullum openeing is not any good. Basically it means: Hi Hamish, welcome back in the theram, but we still think you are not good enough. That's not going to be helpful.

Rutherford was injured and off the field; he's not allowed to bat yet. It wasn't a tactical decision.

If Bridgetown plays more like the first Test, you'd welcome the cross-bat hoicks that Brathwaite was trying to manufacture against Craig. You'd prefer to see some dancing down the track, whereas they could just sit back and rely on the duds that Sodhi's dodgy action mechanics spit out, regardless of surface.

Unless of course it's true. For me, Rud's needs to go back to FC cricket and string some consistent scores together for at least a year before being reconsidered. Let's face it, if we take his 170 out, he's averaged around 21 is his next 20 innings and the manner of his dismissals & shot selection is not what one would expect from a specialist batsmen, let alone an opener.

I don't see why they didn't just bump everyone up a place, probably scared in case Williamson and Latham went out and set a decent opening stand for once. For the good of the team, basically Williamson needs to move to opening, Taylor needs to go to three.

Well played by the Windies, good lower order batting locking away their advantage. NZ need to convert starts into some big daddy hundreds and get themselves near the Windies first innings score to set a difficult chase of 200 or so in the final innings. That's going to rely on two of Taylor, Williamson and Latham scoring more than 100.

New Zealand need to make sure that they don't go completely into their shell here. They're not going to bat for two days straight. They still need to look to accumulate intelligently. Those last couple of 4's from Latham were good stuff.

Profit from Gabriel and Benn, the Windies showed us the template- be circumspect against the threats and punish the guys that aren't. It puts pressure on the top two bowlers to bowl more overs throughout the day therefore limiting their threat also. Why we allow Gabriel to bowl 5 overs for 12 runs is beyond me when we know we need to score probably around 4 an over against him and Benn and to get our runs in before the pitch crumbles. Outside of their four bowlers, they only really have Gayle right? So make it difficult for them and bat with intent.
