EDIT: The problem with Dan and Andy as selectors is that they won't be able to go around the domestic circuit and watch the games, especially with the series' at home coming this sumer. Dan will only be aware of the form and talent he has played with or against, assuming he actually takes part. Suppose Andy could nip to a few matches, but it's difficult to make selections when you don't have a clear image of who you can select.
There are numerous pitfalls and I hope that Vettori and Moles don't try to impose themselves on the panel too much with regards to domestic players they may have not seen much of. There are now whispers around that Fleming had too much of a hand in some selections and there was some favouritism when he was captain - that will be even more difficult for Vettori to balance now.

I read on one of the news websites that Crowe was concerned that Vettori was overloading himself and would burn out from extra responsibility. Long selection meetings (battles with Turner etc) and media scrutiny when he's already captain, one of best (if not the best) batsmen and bowlers in the team. Crowe instead in favour of Vettori batting at 6 and taking extra responsibility that way.

He has a point. Still, I think the new arrangement *could* work well if all these things are managed.

Crowe was interviewed on the radio this morning and he had some concerns about Vettori.

Warren Lees was also interviewed he said he thought it was a good move in the short term but wasn't sure about the longer term. Lees also said that he used to be a selector and coach at one point and that he had mixed feelings about it - he said that the players stopped confiding in him.

Crowe also said he wanted Vettori batting at number 6. he said we would get more partnerships that way.

Vettori at six could work I spose, still not sold on Franklin tbh. His bowling better be a heck of alot better then what it was against India if he's going to bat at eight.

I see Tuffey's in line for a callup for the 2nd test, I just hope they don't drop O'Brien. Patel looked rather poor and I don't see him being any better in the 2nd test. I just hope we bat 1st.

Patel isn't a certain, even to me.
I see.

Colombo is supposed to take turn and break up more than Galle. I think we will definitely go in with 2 spinners, I really can't see O'Brien retaining his spot and Patel being dropped.

Also, Tuffey may not be the answer but he couldn't do a worse job than O'Brien did in the last test.

Personally I'd drop O'Brien before I'd drop Jeets.

Of course I would drop Oram first, can't bat, can't bowl. Whats the ****ing point?

Would your disdain for Oram push you all the way to including Elliott though?

Anyway, there's no way Oram or Patel are going to be dropped for the second match AFAICS. O'Brien maybe, though would be pretty harsh.

It would be like trading tweedle dum for tweedle dee.

Good one

I suspect Tweedle Dee would slightly edge out Tweedle Dum on a low turning pitch, while Tweedle Dum is a little less incompetent against faster bowling.

Why would you bring back Tuffey????

He is NOT the answer to our problems?
Tbf, your answer to our problems would be Shane Warne or Malcom Marshall, something that doesn't come round often.

Tuffey is a very good bowler at his best, and Vettori said in his book that Tuffey was once more valuable than Bond because you could be sure he would be able to last five days.

Oram sucks at playing spin, no denying that, but anywhere else in the world he is a bloody good batsman. Has his issues but most of our lot do. His test hundred against Australia back in the day for example was superb.

He's out of form, badly out of form, but if he were to get back to what he's capable of, Franklin and whoever else has been suggested isn't a patch on him.
