...what the? New Zealand crumble and the Saffies cruise along at 6-an-over? Pretty weird. Go Frankers.

We are really but we should be able to bowl as well as the South Africans on this pitch. Martin has experience and Franklin has been our best bowler in the series.

The fact is, our batting should've stood up so we wouldn't get into a position of "we're missing Bond here".

South Africa will be disappointed with the last 20 minutes of today’s play but you have to think another 100 odd runs and this game could and should be out of the reach of the New Zealanders.

marc - I don't think it would have changed anything about today - I haven't seen the dismissal but it looks to me like the SA bowling was just too good or the pitch was just too bad. Either that or it was a combined lack of effort from the entire NZ team outside of Fleming, which sadly wouldn't surprise me.

I think overall, though, Styris is more suited to that position.
But how would him have coming in at number 3 been any different to when he did come in today?

I never said it would have. I just mean over his career, I feel he's more suited to the #3 position. We were talking about whether Styris should be in the squad, not how he batted today alone.

EDIT: To those who think he only bats well on flat tracks, he averages higher at home (seaming wickets, and he's not played ZIM or BNG at home so you can't use that excuse) than away, and as for batting position, he averages 142 when batting at #3, with two of his five centuries there along with two not-outs (119, 3*, 108, 54*).

Poor batting effort yet again which is kind of becoming a regularity with our squad if you disclude the 593 on that flat wicket :) SA really have the upper hand I just can't help but feel that this match is going to be a thrashing with the time still left.

Yeah Styris was over 40. People seem to forget his 100 vs WI recently and 50* in the last test (at number 3!!).
Oh please. How much pressure was he under for that 50? Zilch. Nada. Nil.

Include the 100 when assessing his worth, but not that 50.

And Prince follows.

Not sure why Boucher was given LBW, I was sure he hit it...and McCullum caught it...

lol, Martin. If he takes a 5-fer-not-many I will be both relieved yet annoyed, because it's Martin!

I still stand by Mills >> Martin btw.

Hahaha, damn.
