I haven't been following this thread and have just noticed Bond being absent due to injury?

WHAT HAS HAPPENED GODDAMMIT?!
From Cricinfo.com

"The only cause for concern for New Zealand was the fitness of Bond. He bowled just ten overs in the South African innings and was ruled out of the rest of the match due to a swollen knee. However, he is expected to recover in time for the first Test, which starts on April 15.

"He's had a knee issue since the end of our summer," Lindsay Crocker, the team manager, was quoted as saying by NZPA. "He's had a cortisone injection earlier this year and we've been able to manage it. At this stage we're not unduly worried, it's been managed before. He had a bit of soreness and we decided not to wear him out."

My hopes of Bond playing in the first test aren't high to be honest.

Thing is, what's to say he won't break down 10 overs into the test match?
Chance you have to take, what's to say Jacob Oram will not breakdown in his first ten overs as well.

Are some of the NZ bowlers swinging it perchance?
Franklin seems to be but in seriousness this is the sort of series which Smith typically would score a ton of runs in and two bad series in a row for Smith is a first I believe.

His no chump, sure he can not handle the ball swinging in but he still averages nearly 50 and some of these New Zealand bowlers will be right up his alleyway IMO.

He struggled with Chris Martin IIRC last time we played them. In fact Martin tore South Africa to shreads in one of the Tests I believe.

If Bond is fit and bowling well, Smith will struggle.

We see, if Smith does not average close to or better than his career average against New Zealand, I will be surprised*.

*Subject to Smith playing three test matches of course.

Don't get me wrong, I think Smith will score a lot of runs as well... but I also think he will struggle with Bond. Should be a good battle.

Should be, really looking forward to this series, see how much New Zealand has progressed and weather South Africa can respond in the right manner after the defeats against Australia

His hoping Bond will be 100% fit for next week's test match. The guy's box office and there is no better sight than a quick in full flight.

I've seen Franklin swing a ball further than any other NZ bowler in recent times. Bond also swings it (well, within pace bowler limitations, he does anything he wants with it...). I've never known Martin to be called a swing bowler. Mills can on occasion, but I don't think he's known for it either.

I heard that Martin's Test success all came when the ball was swinging about. Perhaps I heard wrong. One wonders, though, if he doesn't get it to swing in swinging conditions, what use is he?

At least Franklin swings it sometimes.

Chris Martin's spells against SL last year with the new ball were pretty amazing in terms of the amount of swing he got. Unplayable most of the time with the new ball. Mills is a known swinger too, althought not as much as Bond and Martin, he outswings it to the RHers.

Blaze, you should know by now that LB will take any opportunity he can to put the boot in against NZ
