well its a no brainer...he means that Mcintosh & Jones have done enough at first class cricket to warrant a shot at test cricket.
FC means nothing in Tests...

Well how else are we going to find out if they're good enough for test cricket if we don't try them?

All Darrin was saying that he believes McIntosh & Jones are ready for test cricket...so im not really sure why we're even debating the point.

NZ 299 / 5 at stumps - Richardson 128 no & Oram 59 no.

Patel bowled well after lunch to take 3/5 in 15 deliveries, but apart from that spell has been a bit erratic & bowled a bit short. From what I've read he seems to generate his pace in his last few strides as he gets to the wicket, and it's not so much his pace but the 'force' behind the ball as it comes off the pitch that has done the business.

Richardson & Oram should be looking to get NZ up to 400 & then at least the bowlers will be able to trial a few things without worrying about the score.

If Oram is going to bat like he is right now in the test series then maybe NZ should consider Mason or Butler at the expense of Styris, because if you ask me..the Indian batsmen won't be too worried at the though of facing the new ball pair of Tuffey/Oram followed by Styris.

Infact Astle is not bowling in this series due to his injury then maybe he should be the one to miss out. If he's not got any form with the bat due to his injury lay-off then maybe its time the selectors looked past reputation.

again it's a problem with these bloody shortened tours these days - not enough time / opportunity for players to find form nor for the selectors to blood new talent b4 the Tests & ODIs.

IMO it was a big call (based on lack of proven depth at international level) for the selectors to take both Astle & McMillan, especially when the runs in SL basically came from only Richardson & Fleming.

IMO they have opted for past form as a result of the squad being under strength.

well...NZ declare at 375/7 & Jake Oram picks up a century.

The key now will be whether the NZ attack can take wickets, I have a feeling they won't and that may cause NZ to make a bowling change for the 1st test with either Styris, Astle or McMillan dropping out.

I think Oram just cemented his place in the 1st Test, but not good to see Richardson retire hurt. All in all a good batting effort to get 350 +.

I see Tuffey & Oram opened the bowling with Oram going for 20 after 5, and Tuffey going for 4 after 5. A bit tough for Oram to back up & I hope he manages to keep it together.

I don't know what I was looking at the other day but I swear I saw the team lineup with both Butler & Mason in this team & no Vettori or Wiseman!!!

:duh:

There's no way NZ can go in with Oram opening the bowling & Styris as first change. India 'A' are currently 64/0 and they haven't really been troubled at all thus far.

At Intl level, Styris is at best a 4th or 5th change bowler & Oram a 3rd or 4th change...on these placid wickets, NZ will get nowhere with this kind of attack.

Vettori & Wiseman are good enough with the bat imo for another quickie to play.

Well, New Zealand did get 4 Wickets within a space of 45 runs. So, I guess they did well, even though winning is out of question.
