I have no doubt that Mccullam is the future for new zealand But at the moment he is rather inconsistent at times. He is still young and no need to rush him into the test side just yet.

Tim, i favour Styris at number 4 because that is where he wants to bat. Also Nathan Astle and Craig Mcmillan have always been most effective at 5 and 6 respectively. This has the effect of lengthening the batting order, rather than exposing a middle order too early.

I still favour a 2 man spin attack, IF conditions suit.

I really thought when MacCullum first came to the scene to play NZ cricket he came as a specialist batsmen?

Well he is turned into a very good keeper of late..but shouldnt let his batting talent disappear..

I reckon he just lacks a bit of self confidence when he's batting..?
Spot on. He first started out in the NZ ODI team as an opener, then down to number 3, but since Nevin hasnt really done much of late, Vincent is better off without the gloves, McCullum is the logical choice.

I guess we'll get a fair indication of the test side when the warm-up matches begin starting tommorow.

It'll be interesting to see whether they favour McMillan with his experience over Styris and his better form.

Right, India's last 12 months (since September 2002)

3-4 v West Indies (HOME)

2-5 v New Zealand (AWAY)

10-2 in World Cup

15-11 (58%), including Namibia and Holland once.

Capiche?

 India has played 5 onedayers after WC in Dhaka, you forgot to include that.

Why when all but 1 side agrees?

If it's 1 year, about one third of the teams will have played each other - and you want to base a world ranking on that (ironically the last 12 months would actually make India look worse, but I guess you've not taken that into account?)

And if its three years, its take into account the performance of the team half of whose players are no longer playing the game!

It doesn't matter weather a new ranking system will make India ranking worse or not (though yoyu didn't realise that it would make it only better)

Well Nz played against India Presidents Board XI

and it was washed out but ...

Suprise Suprise

No tuffey instead there was Mason and Butler and they went with 2 spin bowlers aswell in vettori and wiseman

The order read as such

Richardson
Vincent
Flemming
Styris
Astle
Macmillan
R Hart ( keeper )
Vettori
Wiseman
Butler
Mason

I presume either they will stick to the same squad when they go into the 1st test.. or if either opening bowler doesnt do well tuffey could come in instead..

Well that definately means that Tuffey will play the 1st test, so Mason & Butler are fighting for the other pace bowling position.

I'd say the batting lineup in this warm up match won't change too much for the 1st test...Oram & Styris are probably in contention for 1 position.

Do you think they will go for Styris as he is a better batsman IMO, but they could go for Oram as he is a better bowler.

Oh how I feel sorry for Fleming.

This will be undoubtedly a very interesting series as I believe the Indians are quite short of match practice and in my openion are short on confidence in the middle (except maybe Dravid) This also is a positive aspect for the Indians as they are mentally fresher in order to focus on the series.

If the Kiwis are to win this series they have to stamp their authority on the very first match. If the Indians fire in the very first match I think the kiwis are in for a thrashing.

Also I do not think that the Kiwis are going to miss Bond to much .... as he was tamed pretty easyly by a new transitional Sri lanken team.

I would think that they'd be in more need of bowling all things considered. With Styris I can't see them taking 20 wickets in a match, but with Oram it is more a possibility (but it would still be very tough).

V India 'A' NZ have won the toss and batted - IMO this is to see the 'form' of the 'allrounder' batsmen esp McMillan V Styris, and Oram.

I think Tuffey will open with Butler, Oram will be the 3rd seamer ahead of Mason, and the main choice will be Styris or Macca. My bet is Macca needs to score runs to dislodge Styris, who also offers as a 4th seam option so the front 3 & Vettori do not burn out.

jesus

N.Z vs India 'a'

nz batting first are currently 93/4 in 37.1 overs 2.50 R.Rate
Richardson 40 in 120
Macca 1 in 10

And Munaf Patel rocked through the top order taking 3 wickets out of 4.. Astle, Flemming , Styris

Pretty good for this newbie fella... although not good for us !!!

well, the season has barely got under way and i am already hot under the collar!

Why do the New Zealand selectors continue to persist with Lou Vincent?Today against India 'A', he made 11 off 49 balls. I know he has talent but how much time do you give the guy. When others such as Richard Jones, and Tim McIntosh are ready for the position. Tim McIntosh was one of the reasons that Auckland won the State Championship last year. He can bat sessions consistently this is a major requirement of a test match batsmen.

When are the selectors going to realise this piece of common sense?

Meh, As usual its more of a case of the NZ batsmen gifting their wickets.

Styris after hitting a six gets impatient, Fleming gets a good start and then throws it away & Astle has always been a poor starter.

Munaf has apparently been erratic although after lunch bowled well.

Thank god we have Mark Richardson at the top of the order because unlike the others he does have some ability.

Considering that neither has played Test cricket yet, I'm intrigued as to how you know this.

well its a no brainer...he means that Mcintosh & Jones have done enough at first class cricket to warrant a shot at test cricket.

Richardson, imo, will be the biggest thorn in India's flesh this series. I don't think even Fleming wld pose that much of a worry.
