Don’t know if it’s the challenges of bowling second late in the day or if he’s going through an indifferent phase, but Santner has been pretty ordinary of late, with boundary balls creeping in. Without him offering control the attack looks a bit hamstung. Need him to bounce back soon - hopefully this game. Don’t have great expectations of his batting, but no use having him at no. 7 if he can’t smack it around from ball one.

I hate my brain. It subconsciously knows there are games of cricket on at 3am, and even though they're largely irrelevant to me, wakes me up for them then refuses to go back to sleep.

So here we are. Can't wait for the 5pm starts in the Tests...

Whatdyano... Playing bowlers who can bat helps, huh? This side is far from ideal as we basically have 4 #8s and an absolute rabbit with the bat but once Jaddu is back at 7, we are seeing the template emerge for our best T20I side. Harshal can be Shardul's back up at 8, and Bhuvi/Deepak Chahar can be 9 with Bumrah at 10 and the second spinner at 11. Of course, it will be a massive win for us if the second spinner is actually Washy/Ashwin.

Axar will be a nightmare for NZ in tests.. He is taller than Jaddu... Might be better option for T20 WC in Australia especially if batting depth is better.

That's the issue. Axar is really not good enough to bat 7 for an IPL franchise, let alone the national side.
