Guptill is the Tim Southee of the batting line-up, only much much worse.... I'm not implying Southee is sub-test par like Guptill, but just that they both lead a pretty charmed life in the respective batting/bowling line-ups...So let me ****ing get this straight.
We don't pick Raval for any of the Zim-SA tests, then don't even bring him along for the next tour. I get the All Blacks style of bringing players along for the ride, but he's 27 for ****'s sake, he's not some 19 year old.
And then we pick Luke ****ing Ronchi.
What exactly does Guptill need to do to get dropped?
Can confirm he is definitely quicker through the air, watched a fair bit last year of him with keen interest, mainly cause Sodhi is on a hiding to nothing in Tests, and this is coming from someone who wants to see him do well. He has the classic leg spinners conundrum, wicket-taking balls and shite in the same over. Hence why limited overs is great for him, 10 overs is not really a long spell at and mixing it up (whether on purpose or just natural accuracy issues) actually helps when the field is set defensively and batsman wanna get after you. Problem in Tests is that its simply a waiting game with Ish almost every over.he's kind of what this message board likes to pretend jeetan patel is. considering spuds like sodhi have been gifted tests and jeets got 18 of them for his 48 run average, tastle has been shafted with his solitary test where he was tidy enough (the captaingate test).
he's the only spinner who gets domestic wickets. he's not great or anything but he's light years ahead of ish sodhi. just a bit slow through the air (or was - apparently has improved).
This appears to be getting a lot of players into the team right now.I will say though that for the squad and how they operate, Ish can do attitude and willingness will always be looked at favourably, when there is no rocking of the boat.
I suspect hes there to take Nicholls spot in the batting order and to offer a part time role with the ball.Lol Neesham for India? Based on what exactly?... Is it possible for his bowling to be anymore unsuited to Indian conditions. Straight up and down inaccurate bounce bowler who gets it through between 130-138kms..the Indian batsmen would be licking their lips... fortunately he won't get a test.
If I remember correctly he was still playing 50 over County Cricket about a month ago. More worrying the lack of red ball and time at the crease. Jimmy is more famous for what he says on Twitter than his cricket these days, so lets hope theres a reversal in that.I don't mind the Neesham selection because he (and Anderson) are actually amongst the best middle order batting prospects anyway. A question I have though - when's the last time Neesham played competitive cricket?
Is Anderson fit?
What is Ronchi doing in the squad? We have a back up wicket keeper in Latham. And we have a back up middle order batsman in Neesham (assuming Nicholls plays).
Anderson is still recovering.I don't mind the Neesham selection because he (and Anderson) are actually amongst the best middle order batting prospects anyway. A question I have though - when's the last time Neesham played competitive cricket?

Don't buy that...If they needed middle order cover, and they're retaining Guptill anyway, then they should have stuck with Raval, even if their intentions were to open with Guppy. And in the case of a middle-order injury, I'd rather Raval opening and Guptill going to 5, than Neesham coming in purely for his batting at this stage.I don't mind the Neesham selection because he (and Anderson) are actually amongst the best middle order batting prospects anyway. Sadly, yes. I mean Luke Ronchi? Yes NZ has a lack of depth, but gummmmmmoon, Ronchi? I still don't even know his value to being the squad these days. Also, the idea of Bracewell being an all rounder is stretching it, I would say Mark Craig can at least claim that. Bracewell gets everyone because he has what looks like a reasonably sound technique, yet his decision making is hmm. This appears to be getting a lot of players into the team right now.
Nah, even if he is required to bat due to injuries, a few overs of his bowling would just be a liability as far as I'm concerned, especially if we already have 3 seamers & 2 spinners... If we really needed a 6th bowling option...KW would be a better option in those conditions.I suspect hes there to take Nicholls spot in the batting order and to offer a part time role with the ball.
Guptill should not be there at all. Not opening, not middle order, not number 11. Him having a shot at a middle order place is a ****ing disgrace.Don't buy that...If they needed middle order cover, and they're retaining Guptill anyway, then they should have stuck with Raval, even if their intentions were to open with Guppy. There is zero meritocracy.Sadly, yes. I mean Luke Ronchi? Yes NZ has a lack of depth, but gummmmmmoon, Ronchi? I still don't even know his value to being the squad these days. You know what.Seems like
Guptill
Latham
Williamson
Taylor
Nicholls/Neesham
Watling
Santa
Craig/Sodhi
Wagner
Southee
Boult
Bracewell and Ronchi as injury cover.
You can actually see the moment Hendrix lost all hope. You know what.
Ronchi is going to open the batting. And Guptill is going to get a middle order spot.
This is so ****ed up.
