i've decided i'd prefer ronchi slog some runs so india have to live with the fact they let the domestic engine room king score runs against them on one of their hometown turners.
He's probably just about looked the best of the batsmen this morning, partly because he's been the only one not completely spooked by the turn.

yeah every so often he likes to remind us he can use his bat. wish he'd kicked on in ODIs after that pre-world cup knock

No she isn't.

It's day three, there are footmarks, and Ashwin's found his rhythm.

It's the exact same pitch. It hasn't magically transformed overnight. Ashwin's just found his groove.
I think around halfway through yesterday, it definitely started to spin a bit more. Ashwin improved but before that he wasn't really turning it much.

It actually was seriously difficult to bat in the last 40 minutes last night, and that was when KW and Latham had the advantage of having been at the crease for a couple hours.

And some areas of the pitch are still not that good for a spinner. The footmarks are helping but in other areas, the spin is slow at times, not vicious.

i think nz got a bit fortunate tbh. after watching nz's spin bowlers i was thinking back to the last SA test where NZ scythed through them on a helpful pitch only for SA to roll over NZ like a truck in the 4th.

here i was expecting the same except good batting by Kane and Latham mixed with India not coming out firing meant NZ are further ahead than they probably should be given their terrible spin attack and what Ashwin/Jadeja can do at home

Yay, commentators get it this time, spinner bowling around the wicket, ball is sliding past the inside of the bat into the pads, and you can see two stumps, it's normally going to miss leg ....
