If Ishant plays later in the season he will have been playing tests for 10 years and played more matches against Australia than Sunil Gavaskar

He's going to come good soon though

Nah Ishant has already 'arrived'. Nobody's picking him in the hopes that he's going to improve and become world class someday, we're just picking him because he's still one of the best options.

Poor man's Chris Martin, except that he managed to win a test with the bat.

The Black Caps sucked. This performance by rated a 0.5/10. The 0.5 came from them taking the field. Indians were 9/10.

Nah, we tend to remember the bad calls more that went against NZ, because we struggled so much to get wickets... India were actually on the receiving end of quite a few howlers themselves, but they just didn't cost as much because their bowlers were good enough to create other chances soon after. Weaker sides often seem more unlucky in that respect.
Agree, India got more bad / marginal umpire decisions going their way because they were hitting the pads more often. And not all of them would have been overturned if there was DRS, is possible that a couple of Jadeja's bad / marginal lbws from arm balls were actually shaving the outside of leg. Possibly.

I think the bad calls stick in the mind of Kiwis because three came on the series-turning day 3 at Kanpur, which started with NZ having a slight advantage at 1-152 chasing 318. But even if Aswhin's long hop to KW hadn't turned massively out of the footmark, and Jadeja hadn't got the bad / marginal lbws, I don't think NZ had the spin resources to convert a possible first innings lead into win. Best we could have hoped for was a more defensive Indian 2nd innings, which should have allowed NZ to bat out a draw.

So what's the call on Santa? #1 spinner who bats at 8? Part time spinner who bats at 6/7 (BJ bats at 6, next keeper bats at 7)?

IMHO he has the ability to be a real all-rounder in white ball cricket (batting at 6/7, bowling a full spell), but for test matches will be better if he specialises.
