Good question. Only chance of a Kiwi draw was long slow innings from Latham or KW, didn't matter if we were chasing 333 or 433, so Jadeja 2nd innings runs irrelevant. Once Ashwin had them both out it was all over unless it rained. So key 2nd innings wickets Ashwin = 2, Jadeja = 0. So still only innings I can see where Jadeja contributed more than Jadeja was 2nd innings hitting from #7.

Don't you think that's typical subcontinental analysis of cricket though? A bloke like Jadeja who is really a filthy straight break bowling slogger will be much loved because of the emphasis on LO style cricket there.

I agree it's appalling but you really can't be surprised by it. If Glenn Maxwell was Indian they'd make him captain-coach and sole selector.

We just lost the "right" to complain/put into perspective our performance because of the helpful home conditions by pulling out the Jeets card. There's home advantage and then there un-leashing the fury of Jeetan Shashi Patel which is just patently unfair and unreasonable...

Thoughts on 2nd test team?

I'm pleased that Jeets will get a (final?) chance to prove himself. Did OK when he toured sub continent in 2012 (stats below), and has had three good English FC seasons since.

Do we need a 3rd spinner (Ish)? Perhaps a better option is a 3rd seamer to bowl 5th stump line with occasional off-cutters (Bracewell)? Means more chance of keeping the Indian run rate in check.

What to do about Guppy? With Raval not touring, Ronchi success at #5 and not wanting to over-burden BJ, does he get one "final" chance. Or is Nicholls is the option?


fyi, Jeets in 2012 tours, some control of scoring rate, some wickets:

41-9-100-4 in innings loss to India
19-5-78-0 and 15.2-3-68-3 in 5 wicket loss to India
23-7-55-3 and 5-1-22-0 in 10 wicket loss to SL
22-3-47-1 and 16-7-20-0 in 167 run win vs SL

Haven't changed my stance on this for three years. When it comes to test cricket, we have four equally good batsmen, none of who are ATG material as of now, but just below that. Hell of a combo though. Two usually work any given day.

Had an ignominious start with a major promotion, got kicked down to the minor leagues and eventually worked himself to being the face of the biggest independent FC circuit in the world. Given Sodhi's still long-hopping. I think I have to reluctantly concede Santner, Patel & Tastle would be the ideal NZ spin attack going into the 2nd test.
