Hopefully his famed defensiveness will ensure he bats until lunch tomorrow.I'd be surprised if Dhoni didn't declare and give his bowlers ten overs at the NZ top order tonight. And I'm sure many Indian posters would complain bitterly too!
In an odd sort of way I'm looking forward to us batting again. Even though I know we have a horrible record in this situation and would need at least two sessions rained out to have a chance of drawing the match, I'm keen to see a few batsmen show some strength and score some runs.
Cosmic humour?Sigh...why couldn't he have done that at Ahmedabad.
India to get a 15 run lead.
He was talking about after NZ's second innings obviously.
Martin outside of one spell was pretty harmless as well. That one spell was wonderful though, should have been a matchwinner if he had any support.Since it seems unlikely that New Zealand will bowl again, or at the very least, bowl competitively, it's worth looking at the stats.
Vettori: 14 wickets at 36.57
Martin: 9 wickets at 34.11
Southee: 4 wickets at 56.
Jeets: 3 wickets at 69
McKay: 1 wicket at 120
Arnel: No wickets
Bennett: No wickets
In Martin's case, all but one of those wickets were top order batsmen. Martin and Vettori standing heads and shoulders above the rest. Fair play to them, as they cop a lot of flak unfairly from Kiwi fans. While neither of them are top class bowlers, they do belong at test level, which you can't necessarily say for many other New Zealand bowlers today.
Nah with the exception of the first day and yesterday morning, Martin bowled well throughout the series without luck. That one spell was Karma's way of repaying him for his hard work.Martin outside of one spell was pretty harmless as well. Reckon Southee outbowled him in patches and Arnel had a few odd decent looking spells. Haven't seen any of McKay though.Nah with the exception of the first day and yesterday morning, Martin bowled well throughout the series without luck. The only time I saw Southee bowl well in this series was with the second new ball at Hyderabad. The rest of the time his radar was too wobbly to allow him to consistently pose a threat. Arnel was tight, but never even looked like getting a wicket. And McKay bowled exactly as I expected him too. OK at times, but short of the pace that was cited as the reason for bringing him into the team, and all over the shop once the batsmen got on top. Both McKay and Southee had their moments, such as Southee's dismissal of Dravid at Hyderabad and McKay's beauty to get Sachin this morning, but both looked horrible at times as well.Reckon Southee outbowled him in patches and Arnel had a few odd decent looking spells.
