when i said they are going to struggle.. everyone was like mr. obvous and laughing at me.. Now who is laughing.. I hope india loses this, because they would start taking NZ seriously in the next up coming few games.

Man, I honestly hope the tail doesn't wag too much. I'm tired of it happening in world cricket, getting ridiculous tbh.

If India get a lead of 111 or more, we're ****ed. :(
So.....Martin to bowl a 4 wicket maiden in the first over of the day?
That's about as likely as NZ winning a test match against the #1 side in the world, away from home, after being thrashed by Bangladesh, and conceding 329/3 after the first day's play.

The only way I can see us winning is if we can bundle the remaining Indians out for not too much. We are notorious for screwing up easy opportunities like this. Also I reckon McCullum should go out and smack it around, at least until the first wicket goes down. he could knock off quite a high proportion of the runs and in the kiwi mindset that could make a big difference.

Also, annoyingly, I'm going to walk the Tongariro Alpine Crossing tomorrow and leaving in a few hours. So I'm not going to be able to watch Tommo run through the rest of the Indian lineup :(
I don't want McCullum to get too ambitious, because we have a number three who really needs to work on his game against the spinners.

And about as likely as Chris Martin taking a destructive five wicket bag on a flat slow pitch against the best batting line up in the world away from New Zealand and South Africa.

Also, during our batting effort maybe we can see Martin Crowe's work with the team coming to the fore? They played almost exactly as he wants them to when he rants on TV.

What the **** was all that about?

Firstly our batsmen learn how to play spin (where the hell was this in Bangladesh?), secondly 2 of our batsmen manage centuries and thirdly Martin learns how to bowl again (where was this for the past 18 months?!).

What is going on? Can I expect everything to be back to the norm for the 2nd test? Us actually playing well is frightening.

A decade ago, Martin threatened to disappear into the abyss of an ill-spent youth. He wasn't quite Jesse Ryder, but he had his problems. He was drinking, partying and generally wasting his talent. He would turn up drunk for games for his Canterbury club. The boy was refusing turn into a man. One day, his father, Terry, told him, "If Shayne O'Connor can be out there playing domestic cricket, then so can you." That shook him up a bit then. Now he laughs when reminded of it. A couple of days before this game he said, "I probably didn't recognise my talent then. You just did what your friends were doing."
Martin a bad boy? Bull****! Love the O'Connor quote.

What a great day for NZ. They probably surpassed most people's expectations when they got within 30 of the Indian score. Kane Williamson was very impressive, there was no flashy strokeplay or extravagant shots, it was a good technique and an excellent temperament combined with assessing the pitch well and playing within his limitations, was very good stuff to watch.

Then the Indian innings, and I could not believe what I was watching. Chris Martin just bowling good induckers at around 80mph, in very good areas it has to be said, ran through the top order. The pitch still looks ok to bat on, hope the pressure doesn't get to NZ in the morning or in the run chase.

The fielding was top notch, athletic and sharp and held their catches, Will be keeping my fingers crossed for a NZ win tomorrow.

Urgh, I've been feeling queasy all day about what might or might not happen. Win, lose or draw, I really hope we win.

I bet at least one of our news bulletins on TV tonight will suggest that India must have fixed the match, because surely NZ can never play as well as they seemed to yesterday.

(This is a fairly safe bet, since I just typed out the captions for the cricket story for one of said bulletins, suggesting exactly that  Call me Nostradamus)
