Rigger has blown all our picks by the way. Vettori better watch out...
Haha! I keep saying they should give him more chances to bowl, until he proves himself a bad bowler he's a good one in my eyes! ;)

Is there a chance for Key if he has an Ed Smith '03 season? Was never too keen on the chubmeister but if he continues this form.....

From everything I've heard and read, the XIs for Thursday have pretty much taken shape. Feel free to contest any orders or positions you think will be wrong though.

Richardson - Trescothick*
Fleming* - Strauss
Astle - Butcher
Styris - Thorpe
McMillan - Hussain
McCullum+ - Flintoff
Oram - G Jones+
Cairns - Giles
Vettori - Hoggard
Tuffey - S Jones
Martin - Harmison

Hopefully Bracewell will be humble enough to abort his McCullum at 6 idea, unless the new ball is due. It had some merit, but the superior form of the 3 below him simply can't be ignored.

NZ's pre-tour moxie is right back in its shell now, and we've been involved in more draws than anyone in world cricket lately. It will be up to England to force the issue IMO, and that could say a lot about whether they're really the core of a side that can win back the Ashes or still nowhere near it.

i expect the side against australia to be a bit different than it is now. we should have strauss in for tresco, pieterson in for hussain, sajid mahmood/someone else in for jones and hopefully we would have finally found a replacement for giles.

If Pietersen is in then he and Collingwood will provide enough bowling to be a fifth option rather than Giles. Assuming your other changes..

Strauss [Trescothick]
Vaughan
Butcher
Thorpe
Pietersen
Collingwood [Gidman]
Flintoff
Read [G Jones]
Harmison
Hoggard [Anderson]
Mahmood [S Jones]

That James Anderson would come into contention after taking 10 wickets for Lancashire. He was included in the squad.
whether he deserves to be in the side or not....thats another story

There was no way he wasn't going to be in the squad, though!

As the 5th seamer in line when we might even be playing 5 seamers (I hope not) - he was certainly always going to be picked - but congratulations on stating the obvious!

The naming of Collingwood in the squad suggests that the selectors are clearly saying they view him ahead of Strauss - I for one would put him in the team on Thursday!
