the best reason i can think of is that they wanted him to get some time in the middle on this flat track instead of coming in to face the new ball.anzac said:I'd rather have seen Astle coming in - better defense / technique IMO.............
wonder what the reasoning is?????????
something which they didnt put into practice after his first test against the tigers....from what ive seen so far he looks very ordinary indeed and vaughan seems reluctant to bowl him ATM. he looks to be another conditions affected bowler and i dubt that he'll get another game after this....even if jones isnt fit for the next test against the WI.badgerhair said:What they saw in Saggers for Headingley was someone who made a reasonable substitute. What they see in him for this game is a loyal servant who did his bit in a victory and should be given another chance - Anderson will get plenty of bowling in the one-dayers. Fletcher and first Hussain and now Vaughan set great value on continuity, a team ethic, and giving people reasonable chances, and I think that's excellent.
couldnt agree with you more there...i personally do hope that they do use him sparingly in the natwest ODIs, perhaps not play him until the last few games....after the last ashes series injury debacle i do hope we have a bunch of fit in form players next year.luckyeddie said:I just wish we had another bowler who comes anywhere near the threat of Harmison on a featherbed. 23 overs is too many - and he's having to put that kind of effort in every time. I feel for him - he's going to get burned out.
