I know it's not an original whinge (and I suspect I've made it more than once myself) but this must be one of the ploppiest top threes we've ever fielded.

Crawley at least has the virtue of occasionally looking like a test bat (not so much today perhaps) but really what's the point of Sibley if he's going to befoul our eyeballs with a scrotum-grabbingly awkward MO and not actually score any runs?

Is Hameed in contention for a return given he his in the squad? Aware that he's bounced back somewhat after a horror run at Lancs but haven't really kept up since.

Yeah Burns-Sibley have got to be the least aesthetic opening pair I’ve ever seen

Hameed looks all grown up, freaked me out a bit when I saw a picture of him recently.

Kyle Jamieson is going to pin many batsmen with that unplayable length, delivered from above seven feet, going away to hit the top of off. You need to be a very skilled batsman to keep those out consistently.

Not really yet I don't think. His presence in the squad is more testimony to England's lack of batting depth right now. He's had a good half season so far this year and that's it. Encouraging signs but not enough to justify a recall after not being able to buy a run for so long.

Next in line for a top order gig seems to be Bracey, who's snuck into the XI here through Foakes' injury (and Buttler's resting). He knows that the keeper slot isn't his for long but if he scores some runs at 7 it might put some pressure on the top 3.

Crawley is Vince revisited, has a few nice shots but not good enough. Sibley needs runs asap or Hameed will need a chance.

Guess the issue is what the side will look like when Buttler and Stokes return. If Bracey scores runs does he get a top 3 spot etc..?

Yeah, he's seen himself keep at least then.

Honestly think Pope was better.
