Ollie Robinson taking away Conway's attention by being an arsehole. 18 is not all that a tender age particularly for a sportsman that would have gone through age group sports representation and would have been educated in these matters you'd presume. I know our young rep cricketers are (Kuggs has helped with the topic of consent).

This is what Ollie meant by in the face and whole hearted :closedeye
ollie robinson is mild compared to what passes for humour in nz age grade and club cricket

kuggs should be educating young cricketers about consent via a zoom call from jail.

stupid 18 year olds are a dime a dozen. robinsons coach at the time should have given him the absolute riot act, asked him what his mum and brown team mates would think, then it's nipped in the bud.

Now have to watch every ball from since lunch at some point in time today before the second day starts. Sick leave coming up tomorrow but it'll be all too obvious

Extremely pleased despite Latham, Kane or Taylor not contributing heavily we still are in a great position.

People being very harsh on Robinson's 5 minutes in the spotlight before he returns to a career of grouting.

It's not hard at all.

Just lmao if you don't scrub your social media the second you get slightly famous.
This is the one thing when it comes to the numerous debates about PC gone mad that always annoys me. Not everything that is dug up online is that bad and shades of grey , , but when it comes to the cancel culture debate, my logic is its "2021 unless you are an old man you know you have to be spotless online" ,,, how ****ing stupid are these guys?

Also looks dire from the ECB, he has been floating around selection for years surely someone has not checked this before now?

Agree with that... I have first hand experience. One of the kid in the under 17 rep from my own team racially abused a kid from another team. I was coaching the team and offered to sit the kid down for the rest of the tourney but the opponent coach refused. He said let's put that in the back pocket and move on. That coming from a former international was a shame. Felt really for the kid that was abused. That was so wrong. Every time something like this crops up mind goes back to that instance. Safe to say the kid that abused is a nobody in cricket and the kid that was abused is a super star.

Hoping Spark comes out with some extended session highlight sessions, nothing yet. I was gonna watch the replay but now I know the score I'm less keen!

It's not about the tweets but it's his casual attitude towards lot of sections that is appalling. Doesn't matter if the tweets were deleted and don't think that'll fix this. You wait couple of days and you'll hear a lot more about this lad.

Reports are in that Cricket South Africa has refused to get out of bed this morning. Neighbors have said they heard muffled sobs and lamenting cries of "Devon why?"

Our team have tried to get comment but their door is locked and all attempts to talk to CSA has been stifled by them playing "Baby Come Back" at full blast in their room.

If anyone was waiting with those tweets, the anti-discrimination stuff before the match would definitely have pushed them over the edge.

Lots of people saying on twitter he was young and stupid, it’s a disgrace the tweets were circulated … umm he was 21 in some of them, how old do you have to be not to be a racist ***ist arsehole? Another saying half of England probably has tweets like that form their youth (in his defence) … which might be true but is pretty bloody bleak if that’s the common young mindset over there.
I don't think it is, tbf.

I'm not going to pretend that the People's Republic of Brit doesn't have a reasonably high arsehole quotient and in a country of ~65 million people that equates to an awful lot of tools, but I'd say the younger generation is a lot more accepting of deviations from the white hetero-normative template than their parents and grandparents.

Reckon Robinson felt a bit guilty wearing those black shirt for BLM? I guess so. Suppose move on time but wonder how he's going to shape up the next few days. Will be hard to come out and perform. I don't think he can do much anymore other than issuing public statements condemning his own actions of the past.

That an 18 year old known to have been a loose cannon made offensive comments should be no surprise. It's a sad fact that many young people, not just in the UK, don't understand why these things are wrong because their parents probably never taught them they were wrong.

I saw Craig Overton spoke recently about his own penalty for racial abuse - having grown up in a rural Devon community as he did, it doesn't surprise me at all that he would have said "go back to your own country" to an Asian player. That is nothing compared to some of the things I heard people say there. Racism and suspicion of "the other" are part of the culture they grow up in.

For some examples, we had an Asian teacher and some students used to call her a monkey behind her back, among even worse things. I was called a wog lover because I had a Zimbabwe cricket shirt. My own team abused Asian members of a touring side by shouting "bang on! Great bomb!" after every ball. A boy my age shouted "This is Devon, ****!" at a Sikh player after dismissing him. Another player would show up wearing anti-semitic T-Shirts. I knew these things were wrong. Many do not.

My parents were both pretty racist, super anti-'PC' when I was growing up, I absolutely would have posted that sort of stuff when I was 18. Fortunately for me, I was never that big on stuff like facebook or twitter!

At that age you haven't had the chance to really form your own opinions and see the world for how it really is. Yeah, you're legally an adult, but gee, go talk to an 18 year old and the difference is night and day.
