I see Conway ruined some English experiences last night. England's not selecting a spinner to strengthen the batting paying dividends too.

It speaks to his quality that when I went to bed last night when he was on about 30, there was a genuine, maybe 40%, chance that King Conway would bat through the day scoring runs at a good pace while opening in England on test debut.

good day for the kiwis there. Nice to see Conway do so well.

Is Trent Boult injured or resting from this match?

Stayed behind later in NZ to take some family time between the IPL and this tour. I believe he's due to join up with the squad around the start of the 2nd Test so wasn't available for this one and probably won't be considered for the next one either, but likely to play in the WTC final.

He flew home from the IPL to spend a couple weeks with his family. He might be available for the second test, but in all likelihood he'll only be playing in the WTC final.

It sounded a lot like Boult is keen to play in the WTC final but he probably won't be fit for any of it.

how do people go back and find this stuff so fast? surely it was on purpose
Presumably they already knew about it and chose today to release it.

Apparently COverton has some previous too, telling a batsman of Pakistani origin to '**** off back where you came from'. He denies saying it, even though the umpire heard him.

In his public utterances so far he's given the impression he's a wee bit of an arsehole, so one imagines he's maybe rubbed a few folk up the wrong way over the years and it's not a massive leap to suppose one or more of the same decided to direct attention to some of his less savoury tweets to piss on his parade.

Huge failure by whoever handles PR for Team England anyway.

They've either failed to unearth the tweets or, if they did know of them, very much haven't got in front of the potential scandal.

They composed the most appallingly banal and self-serving ("In the last few years I’ve worked hard to turn my life around", so you've bravely struggled against the impulse to be a racist tool and have belatedly realised it's maybe not the go; top personal growth there, chap) media non-speak claptrap for him to read out too.

What an amazing day for Devon and for the team? Outstanding effort. I was hoping 330/3 but I guess it's all good. A big one coming up for Conway today, having seen how he goes about for Firebirds once he's crossed 20 it's a huge 100 or double and in some cases triple.

England got really lucky with couple of wickets Latham and Kane playing on. They only really got a proper wicket of Taylor. It could have been 250 for no loss. England bowling looks pretty placid, maybe the deck isn't helping them much. England fielders look very slow. Nothing great to write home about. Conway is going to make the entire series and WTC his own.

Glad we picked Santner, even if he doesn't take wickets he'll help with the over rate. The pitch will turn over the next few days.

Ollie Robinson taking away Conway's attention by being an arsehole. 18 is not all that a tender age particularly for a sportsman that would have gone through age group sports representation and would have been educated in these matters you'd presume. I know our young rep cricketers are (Kuggs has helped with the topic of consent).

This is what Ollie meant by in the face and whole hearted :closedeye

Haha yeah, really felt like a stock apology template that the ECB had filled in in about 15 minutes. The fact that Robinson clearly hadn't read it beforehand was the cherry on top.

was he 14 when he wrote these? because he sounds 14. the bomb one is straight outta year 10 white boys mouths.

anyway he'll be a bit embarrassed but fine. no one who matters to his career will care about this. check he's not still that dire, confiscate his tweeter, direct the cancellers towards an opposition target.

If anyone was waiting with those tweets, the anti-discrimination stuff before the match would definitely have pushed them over the edge.

Lots of people saying on twitter he was young and stupid, it’s a disgrace the tweets were circulated … umm he was 21 in some of them, how old do you have to be not to be a racist ***ist arsehole? Another saying half of England probably has tweets like that form their youth (in his defence) … which might be true but is pretty bloody bleak if that’s the common young mindset over there.
