Latham just has to get some bat on those ones down leg side to get off strike - it makes Ali have to bowl further outside off where Latham looks more like scoring.
He must be worried about his Lord's dismissal because he's just planting his foot down the crease to literally every ball and waving the bat at it. Not a successful method imo. This is strange, he was NZ's best player of spin in Pakistan, 2 hundreds in the series.
Might be the extra bounce. He played the sweep-stroke effortlessly in the UAE.The struggles against Ali taking the gloss off a terrific innings, possibly Latham's best to date in tests.
Slower wickets allow him to hit the ball square easier; these quicker pitches with less spin are reducing the angles he can work with. This is strange, he was NZ's best player of spin in Pakistan, 2 hundreds in the series.
Looked fine against everyone but Ali.Latham started superbly but has struggled for about 80 balls or so now.
