*Official* New Zealand in Bangladesh Thread

Vettori's armball is just obvious nowadays, always too short. Ironic that NZ has trouble against left arm spinners, isn't it? Boje, Giles, and now Rafique and Rana. Vettori is well passed his best, he *is* an extremely average test match bowler.

On a good note though, nice to see Sinclair and McCullum play well. McCullum was impressive and I thought him not even bothering with a helmet showed his self confidence.

Missed the second day's play. Why was Sinclair playing out 173 deliveries for just 76 runs? And why was Oram, a big-hitting batsman, scoring just 18 in 105 deliveries?
Oram aint a really big hitter as his size would prove otherwise, I think that he is more thoughtful in his shot selection and reads the game quite well.

What are you on mate? I've been gone a while, and you are still on your wacky theories. :D

McCullum too short? Have you seen him line up against Richardson and Papps? All three are around the same height, and have no problems against the new ball. McCullum's versatility gives us plenty of options, I hope he bats in the Top 6 in the ODIs.

His front front press problem is over documented, his lack of success against South Africa was judged unfairly, because most of the LBW decisions he fell to were called incorrectly by the umpire. This tour would be an ideal chance to develop the Papps/Richardson partnership.

Likely Test XI – 1 Mark Richardson, 2 Michael Papps, 3 Stephen Fleming (c), 4 Scott Styris, 5 Nathan Astle, 6 Hamish Marshall, 7 Brendon McCullum+, 8 Jacob Oram, 9 Daniel Vettori, 10 James Franklin, 11 Ian Butler

NZ selectors should have picked Marshall for this Test IMO. After all this Test would have been good opportunity for him to get another Test under his belt, even if the opposition was only Bangladesh.

Established players, usually find it difficult to motivate themselves against the minnows and using Marshall would have been a good option. (as players on the verge are the ones who will use these type of opportunities to show their potential, as Sinclair has done, and try harder.)

Peter Fulton may also have been a useful player to trial under these conditions .

Vettori's bowling is struggling and NZ selectors would need to take a hard look about other spin options for the Australian tour.

Having played with both Richardson and McCullum, I would be very surprised if McCullum was as tall as Rigor. Papps and Bazza McCullum would be more likely to be a similar height.

McCullum 134* and James Franklin is 12* - the score following off cricinfo is 336-7.

Mohammad Rafique has figures of 53-16-108-4, one of the more under-rated spinners in world cricket?

Great 143 from McCullum, and Vettori's 5 overs at the end of the day were the best I've seen him bowl for years.

well done Brendan McCullum..................

hopefully now that he has that monkey off his back he can continue to make the same sort of batting impact that the maiden ton did for Oram..........in both forms of the game...........

so far as Oram's batting goes I have a suspicion he is a lot more comfortable v seam than spin on a turning track - he seemed to struggle both in IND & now here...........maybe a case for batting him down the order under such circumstances & just telling him to go for it as in ODI mode????????

great to see that Franklin still made use of the new ball even if he was unlucky not to get 2 thru the slips..............

and good to see Vettori picking up early wickets.............

if Vettori can continue this improvement then I see no need for Wiseman in the 2nd Test, as he'll not be needed v AUS nor SRL in the Home series.......but who do we bring in - Marshall, Mills, Martin, & who sits it out - Wiseman, Astle, Styris, Butler????????

I see no need for Wiseman either Anzac, I think Marshall will have to play the 2nd Test. Otherwise there is no real point in bringing him over.

Agreed...Vettori was outstanding. Even though it was Bangladesh, he still would have troubled most sides with the loop & dip he was getting.

McCullum took his opportunities unlike the rest so well done to him on scoring a century.

Might I add, that NZ are only doing enough to win this test...it hasn't been outstanding cricket.

And hopefully a five wicket haul for him.

What's with Bangladesh's practice of picking teenagers in their XIs, is it really that bleak for them?
