My god there are some dire comments in reply to that blog. One person said this team is as good as our 01 team ( ) and another said we can fluke our wins in ODIs, but in tests we get found out.

Amd I haven't even finished reading the comments yet.

I stopped reading after the Jesse Ryder bit.

A mate and I are thinking about heading down to the match on Saturday, for those who go to Gabba matches more frequent then I, is it worth paying an extra $15 to sit in the Nothern or Souther Upper stands, as opposed to General Admission? Taking into acccount the sun etc. etc. Also, would you recommend me pre-booking, or would it be fine to get them at the gate?

Haven't been to the Gabba for 2 years, and all the other times I've been I haven't really booked the tickets and therefore had no choice so any help/suggestions would be appreciated :)

Only the first few front rows are exposed in the general admission area, so you can try and get seats in the sun or under shade all day. The view from the upper stands is pretty good, but for fifteen dollars more? Up to you I guess. My team normally buys group tickets but with it being wet here and New Zealand not normally the biggest of drawcards, We are just going to buy tickets on the day. Friday is the only day forecast to be sunny so thats when we'll go.

I would be surprised if you can't get them at the door. Sitting in the upper stands is the best IMO, you just get a great view, but what I love about it is that you always feel close to the action, whether sitting in the upper or lower stands.

Could someone please enlighten me as to the draining qualities (or lack of it) of the Gabba ground itself and whether the outfield has been too badly affected by the storms in recent days?

Some dummy booked an annual leave day from work and is damn-well hoping that despite the odd rain interuption, there will be a decent amount of cricket tomorrow

Clapo I'm going to try and get General Admin on Saturday too, will be good, I reckon Saturday will be the biggest crowd of the Test Match tbh.

Sounds like your close, why don't you drive to the ground and give me a report on the current state of the outfield

I'm going Saturday also, before heading to the World Cup final (have I mentioned that before :p) Should organise for a meet up?

As far as seats go. Suffer in general admission for the first session, after that they pretty much let anyone walk up to the top if it's not a sold out game. Should be able to get tix at the door.

Outfield will be fine, the draining is excellent at the Gabba.

Hopefully it doesn't rain tonight, not raining at the moment.

I'm going with a mate, who wouldn't be keen, so that's a no from me. Would be keen otherwise.

As long as it doesn't rain tomorrow they should play, at the very worst a late start somewhere during the first session. The drainage at the 'Gabba is just something else. Although looking at the radar, there is certainly plenty of rain around.

The forecasting site I use says 40% chance of rain tomorrow...better than the 70% chance they were giving earlier today. Sounds like there will be some sort of cricket at some point anyway.

Play to start in about 7 and a half hours.

Currently raining pretty hard, I'm like 3km from the Gabba. :(

"We don't know how much cricket we're going to get in yet. I would expect us to win the series, whether that's 2-0 or 1-0. I have a lot of confidence in this group. Sure, we're smack bang in the middle of a rebuilding phase, and a lot of our players are still developing and working out ways to be successful at Test level, which I think was highlighted a lot in India. But this is still an exciting period for me as a captain."
Ricky Ponting

Are they really in a rebuilding phase? There's only three players in the team under 30, and one of those has played 39 tests.
