Knowing the way pubs are around here these days, it's likely that there will be some footage available to either prove or disprove these allegations. Having seen the way drunks act around players in QLD pubs on many occasions, I have to think that if there was an altercation, it was likely started by 'the other guy'.

Ever been in a fight? If someone lays the first one on you, let's see you just brush it off. It ain't easy.

From what I've read, he may not have started it so you may be right about some idiot big noting themselves by getting in a tussle with Symonds. But equally, if someone hits me first (as opposed to a little pushing, for example), I'd find it pretty hard not to feel a little threatened by that and want to neutralise the threat.
I'm not a contracted representative of Cricket Australia on the last straw though am I? Without knowing the details, if someone was trying to pick a fight with him he should have just left. Obvioiusly if he was being assaulted, there are situations were fighting back is a reasonable defence.

Oh look, agree with you but like I said it's built on the presumption he had an opportunity to get out of a sticky situation. Need more details, really. If it's found he either instigated it or could have stopped it from escalating but chose not to, farewell and good riddance.

Yeah agreed, innocent until proven etc etc.

Between me and you though I couldn't really give a stuff what he does on the weekends as long as he scores runs for Australia.

According to the TV news, a patron at the Normanby Hotel (horrible place) attempted to hug Symonds and take pictures with him. I caught something about an invitation somewhere, which Symonds declined, and the fan continued to harrass him.

Missed most of it - ears are blocked up because of the flu. :@

Heh, he's been always been such a touchy **** I wouldn't be surprised by this at all. The hard man of Aussie cricket.
Heard someone asked him if he was alright after all his recent issues but he misheard him and thought he was advertising Otago Cricket

Probably was started by the other bloke, but who knows, it's always difficult to apportion blame. It is sad but true that Symonds will always be a target now for this kind of thing. I would have thought discretion would be the better thing for him, why was he at least not out drinking with his teammates? I know it would be annoying if you can't do exactly what you want, but if that's what it takes for him to stay out of trouble and keep his place, surely he should make the sacrifice?

In short, no.

Just because someone is good at a sport doesn't mean they should have to hide away from the public because of the risk of getting in trouble. I hate this global opinion that sportsmen should be 100% clean and sparkling 100% of the time, no matter what. It's crap! If someone is good at a sport, that's what kids look up to them for. I doubt kids even have the slightest idea what their favourite sportsmen do off the field.

Dont think fos meant sacrifice to be a role model, more like the kind of sacrifice a guy on his last chance should be making to prolong his career.

I would think that the reason he's on his last warning with Cricket Australia is that he is quickly becoming a bad role model. It's not because his behaviour is affecting his performance on the field.

It couldn't have been too bad on his behalf he wasn't even asked to leave the hotel. Usually when their is a fight both people leave. I think the media are just trying to get the "andrew symonds bad boy" name again. Even though he is one of the nicest blokes in the team and assholes like brett lee don't get anything bad said about them when they're divorced. If symonds got divorced the media would say he beated on her or something bizzare.

I was at the cricket on sunday and he wouldn't bother signing mine or anyone elses autograph at fine leg. Really ticked me off. I have also been to the coffee shop in Lanecove he owns and met him and he was very rude. Just makes me wonder what he did to his wife. But from all reports and experiences he is an asshole.
