Clarke seems to be abit of a pretty boy / wannabe Madonna to me. I'm sure our boys with sort him out when he comes out to bat tommorow

Wishful thinking... You actually think the Kiwis can take four wickets? :p

ok so I was wrong - NZL won the toss and elected to bat (as one should on anything other than a screaming green top)................

at 250/7 at stumps I'd say the selecton of a 6th batsman has not had any impact as yet, and that they are at least 150 runs short of where they'd want to be with the extended batting lineup.........

hats off to Sinclair - not a pretty innings by any streatch of the imagination, nor did he score at any great rate (42%), but I give the guy his due considering the circumstances...........

interesting to read his thoughts on becoming a permanent opener - that he sees playing in the top order as being no great difference from #1 - #3..........could be as a result of the NZL openers failing to see off the new ball & attack so often perhaps?????

the middle order all made starts, and all succumbed more or less as expected - Styris = too many shots @ #4 too soon; Astle = unlucky / complacent????; McMillan = McMillan...........

McCullum seems to have been a trifle unlucky not to have had the benefit of the doubt, and I may have been wrong about Orams' preferences for batting - well done son, just don't throw it away too soon tomorrow.........

more than a little disappointed to read the verdict on McMillan as having his recall keeping him in two minds as to how he should play his innings..........

my suggestion - give him a couple of seasons at domestic level for him to figure it out...........if he has any hope for retaining his place for the 2nd Test then he needs to put together his BEST batting performance in the 2nd innings..........

I'm also sad to say that Styris & Astle lived down to my current perceptions of their batting application.............for mind the only reason they have not come under further scrutiny is because of Macca's demise ahead of them - too unsettling to change your entire middle order unless forced to do so because of retirements & injuries...........

Fulton must be thinking his chances of getting at least a test squad berth are improving with each match - he just needs a decent opportunity in the ODIs (& not as opener)...........

likewise Vincent will be telling himself to keep scoring the runs and keep taking wickets.............

reportedly so for his club team................with the NZL middle order crying out for some slow bowling options (as discussed previously), then he can shorten the odds in his favour by offering a bowling option..........

Hell, if you're going to look at domestic bowling without any match-qualifications, our primary bowling attack should consist of Styris, Macca, Jeff Wilson, Ewen Thompson, Harris and Neil Broom. Not bad batting there, either. :p Oh, and Fleming should be one of our lead bowlers, too, particularly in ODI's. S/R of 29, average of 28, and in List-A he's got a S/R of 17.5 and average 15.5 - hell, why doesn't he bowl more often in the first place? :p

No but even Tony Grieg of all people thought that McCullum was unlucky.
There was enough doubt there to suggest that McCullum should have been given not out..in the end he was out so NZ just have to move on & accept it.

McCullum wasn't out either, bad call. Sinclair was more of a 'fighter' than MacMillan, who still hasn't learnt anything. Styris was looking to attack a little I thought, unlike most of the others, but then he was out to a beauty.

Fingers crossed Vettori can start well and Oram goes on.

I'm still quietly confident... there's a lot of cricket to be played yet..

You lot have all lost confidence in your team! Yes I'm speaking to you Kiwis out there! Us, The Supporters! Where's that famous Kiwi fightback attitude? Ok, so The Team's a bit vulnerable right now... so what do we do? We rubbish them! Are we all just fair weather supporters?

I can sense all you Kiwis getting drawn into that all too familiar 'We're doomed .... we're not good enough coz we come from such a small island... the Ozzies are far too good for us, just as the Poms were... ' boo hoo hoo scenario!

Hey! Even if both Oram and Vettori are out without scoring this morning... even if we don't make it to the third day of the test... So What! At least we know that they're doing their best out there and I for one am proud of them!

So if we're going to be bitchy, lets be constructively so..
