**Official** New Zealand in Australia Thread

McMillan is an idiot. He really backed up Bracewell's statement that he's a "fighter" didn't he?

Mills can bat..but I doubt we'll get anymore than 300.
The bowlers are just going to have to do their best to restrict Australia to something less than 400, which I can't see happening on this wicket.

Oram played some magnificent hook shots. I mean in NZ we'd never see Oram play any of those shots due to the ridiculous wickets we get served up.

One wonders how some of the NZ batsmen would go if they got regular game time on good bouncy wickets in Australia.

It depends on Vettori & Oram. Unfortunataly Vettori is a dodgy starter and is a prime candidate for snicking one.

If NZ is to have any chance of bowling the Aussies out, then Martin & Vettori have to perform. Those 2 will be the keys to taking wickets IMHO.

......Bond will probably get another chance at ODIs. I'd rate him a 50/50 chance of ever playing a test again. Anyway, people need to stop refering to him as an injury and thus a contributing factor to an undertrength NZ attack. People need to forget about him when talking about the NZ side, he's been injured too long.

Oram isn't exactly a great starter either....

I sure hope our bowling plans are better than our batting plans.

I was looking at the Aussie attack today...it's not overally quick, it's just got about 1300 more wickets than NZ's!

McGrath & Kaspo are only around 130-135 km's whereas Gillespie is averaging around 140 km's. NZ's is probably averaging around 135.
It's not very often you see Australia beaten by pace anyway...I've only seen Bond & Ahktar do it in recent times. It's more about putting it in the right areas & bowling back-to-back-to-back overs of maidens.

All in all, a boring batting display by the Kiwis....is it a plan or was it just because they could do it?

Hopefully, things will get more exciting tomorrow....

It's also about turning half opportunities in the field into wickets...e.g. Michael Clarke running Astle out today.

So why are you even watching the test? After all the talk leading up to this test I cannot believe you'd be thinking any differently about the way NZ were going to approach this innings!

Does or can anyone get a video of Clarke running Astle out? I was out at the time and couldn't watch it. Pity, because I heard that it was really good.

It was brilliant. NZ are going to need to produce something similar if they want to have a decent crack.

Astle didn't help himself by casually running in without sliding his bat, but I think the throw was too good for him anyway.

Astle was jogging, and he did not extend his bat. It was a truely pathetic piece of cricket by an experienced batsman - he could have made it easily. Something you'd expect from Inzi or an Indian!

Clarkes runout of Astle did little for me tbh...

I gotta say New Zealand played really well. To be 250/7 at the end of day 1 against a side like Australia is a rather swell effort. If you don't mind my saying so. However I'm really concerned about tomorrow morning. Something tells me we're gonna be rolled in the first hour. It doesn't have to be that way though. Vettori and Oram did to go easy. Take their time and settle in. If McGrath and Gillespie bowl how they did today that shouldn't be a problem.

I think Sports Tonight has some...

I was there today, and 15 beers later, I have to say that, that was the only enhjoyable part of the day. Sinclair batted beautifuly, he was picking the right balls to play and the right ones to hit (except for his ultimate ball). Styris looked positive, but was far too cavalier, he should have been run out by clark early on.

Kaspa was the best of the bowlers, he looked the most dangerous, Gillespie got lucky, and McGrath was ordinary. Warne was gifted his wickets by McMillan, and IMO McCullum wasn't out.

However, I have said before that Oram isn't test class, I have to take that back, he played very well, but it will be remained to see if he is the true allrounder N.Z. have been after. Tomorrow will decide the tes, if N.Z. can get another 100+ they are still in the test, but if Australia roll them N.Z. are gone, especially on a wicket as good as this.
