MacGill, Katich and Clarke to make the side. NSW all the way.. hehe

I think Lehmann will make the side. To set things straight, both MacGill and Katich come from Western Australia.

Has to be MacGill, if Warne is still injured.

Has to be. I thought the team was supposed to be announced today...

Do you think the selecters will choose an extra batsman with the bowling line up looking settled or will they make the hard choice and cut either of Lehmann, Katich or Clarke and keep Brett Lee?

I'm sadly expecting NZ to lose to NSW. :( We seem to do worse in tour matches as it is, and that's against teams like Kent, not NSW.

Why do they have to give Kyle Mills so many chances when new players should be inducted into the team and given exposure? That Bangladesh series was a cakewalk for him, but he has been a failure when it mattered most.

lol doesn't make much difference, i imagine the 12th man will be released for state cricket no matter who it is... one of clarke katich or lehmann will miss out still.

can't be past his prime when he took how many wickets v BAN??????

and what is the record for a visiting bowler in a 2 match series in BAN??????

I just hope he can keep the faith..............although I don't think Brisbane will offer much for a finger spinner..........
It's Bangladesh. It took the poor batsman of Bangladesh to gift Vettori his first 5 wicket haul in what, 3 years? Let's keep it in perspective.

true they are nothing to write home about - my main point was trying to compare Vettori's performance in BAN to any other of the 'top' bowlers who have played there..............particularly as this side had looked to have improved under Whatmore when they were in AUS..........

the other thing I am hoping for is that this performance would have the same flow thru effect for Vettori, as taking wickets in BAN seems to have done for Harmison - that's where he got going wasn't it b4 the WIN series?????

Katich left out in favour of Lehmann and Clarke.
I simply cannot understand that decision. Based on their individual performances during the Indian series (Katich 276 @ 39.42 versus Lehmann 132 @ 26.40) I was positive that Katich would get the nod and Lehmann would be quitely thanked for his contribution to Australian cricket and put out to pasture.

Katich, Hauritz out of Aussie Test squad
Wednesday November 10, 09:42 AM

Simon Katich and Nathan Hauritz have been dropped from the Australian cricket team named for the first Test against New Zealand in Brisbane starting on Thursday week.

The pair, who played in the fourth Test loss to India last week, have made way for Darren Lehmann and Shane Warne respectively.

Michael Clarke retains his place after a sensational start to his Test career in India, where he topped the batting and bowling averages.

Brett Lee has been included in the 12-man squad but looms as the likely 12th man, having played only one first class match since breaking down with injury on the tour to Sri Lanka in February.

Lee was unable to break back into the starting XI in the four Tests in India as fellow pacemen Glenn McGrath, Jason Gillespie and Michael Kasprowicz all performed strongly.

Lehmann has been included subject to a fitness test on his injured hamstring and Katich could have a reprieve if Lehmann fails to recover.

Warne has been included despite suffering a broken thumb which kept him out of the fourth Test in Mumbai.

National selection panel chairman Trevor Hohns said Warne had recovered enough to warrant selection.

Hohns said it was a tough selection meeting, with Katich and Hauritz unlucky to miss out.

"Both Simon and Nathan performed exceptionally in India and it was a very difficult decision to leave them out," Hohns said in a statement.

"However, Darren is a highly-respected, experienced campaigner and is still our preferred choice at this stage, as long as his injured hamstring is fully recovered."

It is the second time this year Katich has been dropped after he made way for Andrew Symonds for the first two Tests on the tour of Sri Lanka.

Katich was the third highest run-scorer for Australia on the Indian tour and Hohns said he would play for Australia in the future.

"We have every faith in Simon, and are very confident that he will play in the Australian Test team again in the not too distant future."

Hohns also paid tribute to Hauritz, who played a key role in the final Test against India.

"Nathan certainly put his name forward during the fourth Test as a future prospect for Australia, however, with Shane looking like he will be fit in time for the Brisbane Test, it was only natural that he comes back into the side," Hohns said.

Australia: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist (v-captain), Matthew Hayden, Justin Langer, Damien Martyn, Darren Lehmann (subject to fitness), Michael Clarke, Shane Warne, Jason Gillespie, Michael Kasprowicz, Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee.

Its amazing he topped the bowling, but if one person gets 6-9 he must skyrocket up the table.
